What the heck is lip service? I hear people using it all the time. I figured it's either a. kissing or b. bull$hitting. Am I close?

You're right on with bull$hitting. It's when you say what people wanna hear all the while knowing that you won't do what you're claiming. Yeah...it's BS.

from merriam webster:

"Main Entry: lip service
Function: noun
Date: 1644
: an avowal of advocacy, adherence, or allegiance expressed in words but not backed by deeds -- usually used with pay"


so one says something that they don't necessarily mean, usually in agreement with you

Yes, these folks have it right. "Lip Service" basically means trying to address a problem with words with no intention of backing it up with action...

For example..

Prez Clinton gave "Lip Service" to ending terrorism after the embassy bombings in Africa.

Monica Lewinsky gave (err... bad example)
