Bans on prostitution have always been the most puzzling concession to the religious right.
Let's examine this: if I want to have sex with someone, that's OK. If some girl buys me a drink, and I want to have sex with her, that's OK. But substitute "drink" for "cash", that's not OK?
I like the way it works up in Canada. Prostitution itself is fine, but "pimping" or pandering is illegal. I've never paid for sex, ever, but I don't see why someone should a) be barred from doing so or b) someone shouldn't be allowed to make money having sex with people.
