Thought this might be interesting to someone... free internet access (no ads/etc) paid for by your National Democratic Party (I claim no affliation - in fact, I would strongly deny any).

The link:
Free Internet Signup (http://freedem.millioneyes.com/signup/signup.asp)

This brings up two interesting points, however...
1) The Dem's will no doubt suggest that we make this a govt sponsored program - but why should the govt shell out a penny so long as the Dem party will do it for us? (I guess there was some extra money left over from the Chinese contributions)

2) They are using a national carrier to set this up - who set up their network based on making money. So what does that mean? -the poorest counties don't get their free internet access. Sorta runs counter to their stated purpose, dontcha think?

Maybe they are trying to be Big Brother from the story 1984. it's kinda ironic that it's called "millioneyes"

Yeah, hehehehe, I could just see it now. in the middle of browsing, you get hijacked to a DNC site. Or it will deny you access to anything related to the GOP. I wonder what their intention is. Maybe give Gore an opportunity to say that he is providing Free Net Access to all and narrowing the digital divide.

FYI: No party affiliation. =)

I thought there would be no ad banner as well when I signed up for the service the other day. I thorougly read through the user agreement, etc. However you do download a separate dialer and in fact there IS an ad banner that stretches across your entire screen as long as you're connected. I wouldn't recommend this one, democrat or not.

I can see Gore now...

"Well, since I invented the internet, I thought I might as well make it free for all!"

Does anyone remember him taking credit for the internet way back when? hah... I actually got to chat with him on IRC, which was interesting... collaboration with Globalearn.org when he was in Brussels. Pretty cool. He's a tad flat personality-wise for my tastes, but when you eye the competition (i.e. Bush), he seems a whole lot sweeter.

So who gets the revenue from the ad banner I wonder?

And just to make this even more off topic: I echo your views on Gore (mainly, that he looks "not so bad" in light of the competition). It causes me endless pain that the best my party can do is GWBush. I honestly can't think of a single good reason to consider him a valid candidate for the highest office in the land... haven't be proven yet that you can't inherit competence?

All in favor of INTERNET TAXATION RAISE YOUR "LEFT" HAND.................. hmm
anyone with their left hand up should be in a communist country of their choice.. capitalism is the only defense we have against communism accepting the fact that no matter how a society is ran there will be people who will not work, will not succeed and will never have anything that isn't given to them. a man with a million dollars is a fairly rich man... take 999,999 and give it to everyone else and that man can't buy a cup of coffee...sorry for the rant http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
