Just got one, are they supposed to heat up this much? Hasn't caused problems just thought that a $1000 piece of equipment should have better heat dissipation.

yeah they get hot...

because lots of electronics in a tight un-ventulated space, no where for the heat to go, no air going through

Ok, so what's a good thing to do about heat dissipation? Not leave it on (not practical)? Or prop it up so air can flow under?

well they know they get hot, if it was too much of a problem they would have done something about it, you should be fine....

How long do you keep it running???...

While we're on the subject. How long does the battery last? Roughly. It went from about 70% to 20% in about a half hour...is this right?

it depends on what you're doin...if you're doin something video intensive like watching a dvd, graphical design, playing games...bye bye battery. oh yea, listening to mp3's and goin to G|A will suck out your battery too.

and if you laptop is melting...oh bad, my dell gets super hot sometimes, i can't even leave it on my lap...ouch

My battery lasts anywhere from 45-90 minutes depending on what i'm doing. Its pretty short unfortunately. Whats funny is some laptops advertise that they have DVD drives and that you can watch a movie anywhere... well they forgot to mention that the battery will most likely run out half way through the movie.

mine lasts at least 2.5 hours,... that's watching a dvd movie and nothing else,... i'll still have 15-20% left over.

i'm usually at the coffee shop with a cd player playing or an mp3 cd running in the drive, working on graphics within photoshop,...

i'll sit for at least 3 hours and use up 50%.

i think it matters what laptop you've got.

Matters what OS as well. WinXP is really good about shutting off parts of your laptop that are not being used. When I'm working in MS Word, my laptop will last over 5 hours now.

Oh and this is cute, Mikey saw the new UPS commercial the other day. The one with the dwarf, and he realized that Mommy and her friends work(ed) for UPS. He said "Genevieve and _____ works for Santa???" :) it was cute!

...Then again, battery life is somewhat dependant on whether the battery was "conditioned" (fully drained, then fully recharged) a few times to begin with, as well as how old the battery is.

(note that conditioning the battery has nothing to do with memory effect -- the condition of Ni-Cad batteries that cause them to not hold a charge if you don't completely drain them first).

Battery conditioning is always recommended at the beginning of a battery's life cycle.

Give everyone love and hugs -- except Scott. Tell him to get a hair cut.

Shon, Brahm, Fred and I are going to be dressing up as Scooby Doo monsters (I'll actually be dressed up as the banker dressed up as the Creeper). And what else??? Trick or treating. Actually, i'd be happy if I could just scare some kids.

Audie is a vampire and Mikey is a wizard. I haven't decided what this year... I still have Velma and my cat costumes. Donnie won't dress up but has decorated the yard with all kinds of stuff.

:neartears we had so much fun last year.
