Talking with another fellow tech...he says he has Win XP, with a tweak program installed with it. He states that he has a 4X burner and he was able to burn a whole in 5min...is that possible

Highly unlikely:hmm:

If it was a "whole cd", it was likely one of those business card ones.

I've heard of windows making things slower, but burning whole CDs with a 4x in XP in under 5 minutes is against Microsoft company policy! :P

Haahaa, until I see it, I won't believe it. That just defies everything I believe Microsoft to be. :heh:

I mean physically it's impossible, it can only write so fast... not even if it's 650MB

Exacly. Microsoft's burn speed enhancement is actually a filter. It takes random things off the burn list as it burns. In the end, not everything is burned but it shows a full cd.

Maybe he meant he burned a hole in 5 minute.
I've burnt coasters way quicker then 5 minutes. That's not too much to brag about.
I may be able to offer a bit of explaination. A friend of mine was telling me that burners can do thier CD-R speed on a RW, as long as the RW has never been used. There's a way to trick the burner into thinking its a write once.
So if he had a 8x4x32, he may be able to burn an RW at 8x, when it should have done it at 4x. Doesn't explain the 5 min for a whole CD, even at 8x, it would have taken close to 10.
