ok, now for my hawaii trip, i used travelocity. it served me well. hotwire seemed kinda high for my dates. i didnt know about qixo. i also tried expedia or sumpin.

anyhow, what do y'all think about these?

correct me if i'm wrong on the urls:
www.travelocity.com
www.expedia.com
www.qixo.com
www.hotwire.com
www.priceline.com
www.whatdoilooklikeatravelagentorsomething.com

edit-
i just checked the same flight on expedia, and i'll be darned if it didnt come up like over $300 more for the same flight! dammit...did i do something horribly wrong? it doesnt say first class..........

just purchased tickets for a friends wedding in Portland this winter, from Baltimore....

i first tried travelocity, cause i heard they were cutting jobs, and thought i'd try to help them out..

their UI sucks :(
couldn't do it....

so, went to orbitz and expedia..
found better prices on expedia, so i used them...

mmmm, that last site needs some work with interfacing with their databases.... :P

so far the peeps that voted said expedia worked for them. their fares came up like $300 more than qixo....

is there a trick to it? i feel like i'm doing something wrong if theirs is good and i get such high fares. theirs is even higher than travelocity, which actually refers to them "for greater savings" or something. i actually get more transfers (1 more), but i'll do that to save the $300 (which is actually 100% increase over the fares at qixo and travelocity)

well, that's the first I heard of Qixo...so, i'll check and compare the prices.....

With Expedia last night..
I bought my tickets at 205.00, and there being a 200 ticket as the lowest....
Qixo....I'm getting this ANNOYING refresh every 5-10 seconds, and getting the same exact flights.....the 205 dollar flight at 205.50 on qixo, and the 200 flight at 201...hmmmm, i think qixo is trying to make 50 cent - 1 dollah profit by ordering through them...:hmm:

I used to use cheaptickets.com
but they aren't that cheap anymore.

I use a combo of everything. Lately, Orbitz has come thru for me the last four times. Got a flight from SFO-Tampa for $161 Continental.

another vote for orbitz... it's actually run by the airlines themselves, and to join they have to commit to giving their best web fares on the site.

Also, check Southwest if they ave flights in your city pair, because they can usually beat anybody.

I used travelocity about a year ago and they were great. It was nice to be able to choose my seat when I bought my ticket. I don't know if other sites do this, but it's nice. But of course, you can't beat the prices on priceline.com.

well, i looked at all of those recommended so far. i can only think that some of the variables in results have to do with the specifics of the flights. my search yielded the same from orbitz and qixo, with those being the lowest...followed by travelocity and hotwire. i can't do priceline cuz i gotta know the flight details to coordinate crap. expedia was the highest...which may not be normal for them, so i won't rule them out of future searches.

thanks for the tips! oh, and i haven't laid out the cash yet, so if anyone else has something, feel free to say.....

I've had pretty good luck with Expedia. Continental is generally the cheapest when it comes to flights so i just purchase tickets from their site and get a few extra thousand miles for doing so.

well then...here is something interesting....

i went to qixo's site and punched in the same places. it came up with flights that were like $75 more than before. so i just redid the exact same search. it came up with 2 flights for $40 less! of course it routed me through an airport 40 mi away...but i was just surprised that the same search would have different results. makes me wonder

For one thing, airline ticket prices and availability are extremely volatile, so two back-to-back searches could yield different results. It never hurts to try several sources (I usually check with travelocity, qixo, and orbitz). It also can be a good idea to check on a specific airline's website (such as southwest.com). In general, though, I've usually had the best success with travelocity.
