Just heard on the news and read here (http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/asiapcf/central/10/19/ret.rodgers.otsc/index.html) that we put special forces troops in Norhtern and Southern Afghanistan. They go in with Blackhawks covered by Apaches. It's on...for real now.
Got to love the news media for blabbing that out. Hey as long as they get their story that's what matters. Forget about putting these men at risk.

It wasn't that bad, it was a Pentagon announcement. Shame on the Pentagon if they shouldn't have released it. The coverage on the smallpox, tho, was moronic. They told the exact number of supplies and showed the exact place (?) where they were being stored and produced. Giving away reconnaisance.

Speaking of those Blackhawks, I heard that the two soldiers that got killed when one crashed were a PFC(E-3) and SPC(E-4). Now does anyone know the specifics of this crash? Because last I remembered, you have to be an officer to fly anything. I'm thinking these guys were in the back somewhere.

Actually a quite a few helicpter pilots are non-comishened officers but im not sure if either one of them were pilots.

They were on standby for a search and rescue mission. No word on why it went down, but it seems highly unlikely that it was shot down over Pakistan.

Or they could be giving out false information to the media to decoy attacks. One would hope.

Unfortunately, Kabul doesnt have a lot of 5-star restaurants, so there isnt a lot of Western media around.

Hmmm I always thought that you had to be atleast a warrant officer to fly, but I could be wrong. Any any rate, neither of those guys were NCO's so that's another thing that made me think they weren't flying. I'm off to discover the story somewhere....

I don't know about military rank, but in this link (http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/asiapcf/10/22/ret.aircraft.wreckage/index.html), someone is lying about who did whaat. I have a feeling that our gubment is lying because...well...that's what they get paid to do.
