It's satellite radio with about 100 channels with little or no commercials and in most cases no DJs. It's pretty neat in that no matter where you go you wont losse signal, theoretically anyways. Check it out here: www.xmradio.com . One i thing I like is that it flashes the name, artist and lyrics and all that nice stuff on the display.

ohhh i see...

well thats prety cool i guess. Except that whats the point of radio like that? I mean if you want to listen to music without commercials ne where.. just burn some cds... then you get to chose what you want.

Besides that, the only radio i listen to is talk radio so i dont really think id need this. ALthough it does sound pretty cool though.:)

Plus you have to get like a $300 adapter to play it on your regular stereo. I'm not sure about how much new decks are gonna cost, but I imagine it wont be cheap

You can get that with regular radio. It's calld RDS. Unfortuinately not many stations support it yet. It should be supported more and more as stations upgrade their equipment though...

I can see how this service would be worth it to profesional drivers, like truckers. But average people, who do 90%+ of their driving in one area do not need this. When I go on long trips I take a case of CDs. I don't need to pay $120 a year to listen to music that I can listen to for free. You think they won't pump it full of commercials once they have a wide acceptance? They will. Maybe not quite as much as regular radio, but enough to not make a real difference.
I'll stick to FM and my CD player, thanks.

Oh, attgig, it is primarily for automobiles.

Well, I will be getting this pretty soon:

Kenwood Z828

It says it is Sirius Satellite Ready so I don't know if it would work with XM.

Sirus is a similar service being offered. Not sure if it has launched yet.

Supposed to be CD quality. But I still think my CD collection will be superior for my tastes.

Ya, that was one of the things I looked into before deciding to get this head.

from what i heard sirus and xm merged technologies, so that head unit might work. http://www.radioink.com/viewentry.asp?ID=144409&PT=Satellite%20Radio%20News

Sirius will be launching very shortly and they have alliances with some big names... Porsche, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Kenwood, Ford... just to name a few. It appears that the content is different between XM and Sirius. Sirius has more commercial-free stations, hence the higher monthly fee. I really hope Sirius does well. I've invested heavily into it.

I still don't see the point to this. Why not just listen to a CD, then you actually get to hear a song you want.

It might be useful for the serious boaters but still you always have the CD deck.
