View Full Version : The crummy economy

I was just thinking (prompted by the payday thread) about how much the economy has gone down the toilet. I work in a stable job, but I had a bunch of friends who bolted a couple of years ago for .com and other startups.

They offered lower pay and the promise of lucrative stock options.

- One guy I knew was terminated from my company for performance a couple years ago. He joined another company 2 weeks before they went public and made about $200,000 in options for doing nothing.

- Another guy I knew joined a startup lured by false promises, slaved 80 hour weeks, and they fired him 1 week before the IPO.

- Others I casually knew bolted, and are now poor and unemployed.

It's funny, work used to be a lot of fun with a bunch of younger recent college grads, but now the only folks still around are 50-something veterans. What happened to all these 20-30 somethings and what are they doing now?

(and I'll preemtively knock out the , "Y'all want fries with that?" responses now) :D

if they're like me, they are doing nothing. well, that's not true, i went back to school full time. and i know a few other people that did the same thing as me. so maybe that's what everyone is doing. getting a bigger, better education!
