I am tired of eating pasta and cereal. Does anyone have any recipes for meals that are cheap and fairly easy to make. I dont like any seafood so thats out. And no pasta recipes unless they are really good.

Here is one of my personal favs:

3-4 lb Boneless Pork Roast (Wait till there is a sale)
1 bottle BBQ Sauce
French Rolls

Rub roast w/ salt and pepper.
Cook on low in crockpot for 8 hrs.
Drain off fat.
Shred pork w/fork and mix in BBQ sauce.
Let cook on low for 3 more hours.
Split rolls and put in toaster.
Put lots of meat on the roll.
Put a bib on and eat it.

i like tater tots, fish sticks, and canned biscuits. i don't have to eat things that are cheap and easy, but that is stuff that i like anyway. canned biscuits are the greatest. also, get chicken breasts and cook them on a george forman grill and put BBQ sauce on them.

i have a recipie for greek party squares and they're really easy to make. just get chopped spinach (frozen or whatever) and mix it with cream cheese, sour cream, feta cheese, monterey jack cheese, and 2 T mayo. oh, and before you do that, put some canned cresent rolls int he botton of a pan (out flat) and bake till brown. then spread the spinach stuff over the cooked biscuits and bake another 15ish min. yay!

Here's a stoner snack for you: Get a package of Hawaiian bread rolls. Slice them in half and line on a tray. Apply spaghetti sauce on all the rolls generously. Sprinkle cheese on top and throw it in the oven until the cheese is melted. Wala! Stoner pizza :lick:

SOUP-SOUP IS ALWAYS GOOD..homemade i mean..get a pound of chicken(bone in and skin on)-toss it in a pot of salted water, boil the hell out of it (skim the extra fat and floaty stuff that comes to the top).Add some chopped celery (cheap),chopped onion (cheap),and chopped carrots (cheap).let it simmer for a few, if you want-toss in some chicken boullian (cheap)to make the broth more yellow. Cook some pasta on the side, and add it to the bowl you want to eat it out of AND THEN pour the soup ontop of it. (I pick the chicken out, remove the skin and bones, chop it up and toss it back in the pot)...you get a LOT of meals out of it and it probably costs less than 6 dollars to make. (and yes-you can freeze it)..
same goes for turkey soup, beef soup, lentil soup etc..
clam chowder is good too-the red or white kind.
AND DONT FORGET CHILI....yahhhhhhooooo.
chili:
one pound browned and drained hamburger
one large can crushed tomatoes
two cans of kidney beans
(I use my own spices here but to save yourself money you should use one package of McCormick chili seasoning)
one small onion chopped and browned along with the meat.
one small green pepper-chopped fine.
Add hotsauce for desired heat.
and let it all cook together in a crockpot for a few hours once you brown the meat on the stove.

Queso: Get a brick of Velveeta and some Ro-Tel chili/tomatos and melt it in a crock pot. Eat it w/a bag of tortilla chips.

Go to the store and get some spinach dip and a big round of sourdough bread. MMMMM....

That is GREAT broth. When my family owned a Chinese restaurant, we used that broth for everything. :D

I used to live off:

Boxed potatoes. If you want something that literally takes 2 minutes.....

quesadillas.

Get some 'pizza quick' sauce (better than spaghetti sauce) and put it on English Muffins.

deep fry a fri-bur (bean burrito), instant poor man's chimichanga.

dont forget the lowly grilled cheese, just use better cheese than American.

I used to also make this comfort food:

1/2 - 3/4 cup uncooked elbow macaroni
1 lb. ground beef
1 can tomatoes (mid size can, I like diced)
1 chopped onion
1/2 can tomato paste (you can skip if it's not handy)

Brown ground beef and onions until crumbly and onions soft. Add macaroni and cook until it browns slightly. Then, add tomatoes, garlic salt (if preferred), salt and pepper, and 1/2 can of water. Tomato paste is also good, as it gives it more tomato-ee flavor. Let boil, covered, 20 - 30 minutes, stirring to keep from sticking. Serve with grated chedder cheese. This heats up great in the microwave, but does not freeze well.

Also, I like the old "pot roast in the crock pot" covered with can of cream and mushroom soup. Just throw it in and let cook all day. Serve with rice.

I agree with Ms. Melon - I used to make a lot of soup, but mine was veggie: potatoes, onions, celery, carrots, and whatever frozen stuff you like.

And if you like a little spice, I use the Tony Chachere's red beans and rice mix. I steam a length of pork sausage, chop into bite size pieces, and add just before the mix is ready. I also add a can of kidney beans - cause I like the beans a little more substantial. You can also serve over white rice to stretch the meal a little more.

Enjoy!!

Just cooked up something that was good but sounds sick. Just made it up cuz its what I had in the cupboard.

3 russet potatoes in small chucks
1 can diced green chiles
mexican seasoning
lawreys seasoning
garlic powder
pepper
cheddar and monterey jack cheese
beer
butter

put the potatoes and alot of butter in a pan and cook for a while. Then put on some of the seasonings. After a while pour on some beer and scoop the green chiles onto the potatoes. Put more beer on when it looks like it needs it and a little more of the seasonings. When the potatoes are soft, put onto plate and put cheese on top. It looks bad but it tastes pretty good.

well if you like ramen... try boiling the noodles... don't add the soup base. Drain the water and then just add the base as a spice on top. It's pretty good.

:puke: Personally, I wouldn't eat something that eats its own ****.

BBQ chicken is grand. Those greek party squares sounded good. I have to learn how to cook...

Man all these recipes take effort and time to cook. I don't know about you, but I don't have time to cook in college. It's sandwiches and quick-fixes for me. When i'm hungry, I want to eat RIGHT THEN AND THERE. I don't want to have to anticipate 8 hours in advance when i'm gonna be hungry. I'm gonna stick to turkey sandwiches and george foreman grill :D

For the truly lazy... just boil a bag of ramen noodles, drain out the water, and dump in a can of some sort of thick soup (my favorite is chicken chowder). Heat up till the soup starts to bubble and you're done. When you get tired of one soup, try another type. :D

I prefer to hunt for some nice beaver at the local bar, and take it home. Nothing satisfies like a nice beaver. The rarer bald beaver is good too. The hairy ones arent so good.
