Hey Yall,
I'm definitely an overclocking amateur here. I was wondering on how I can get my system overclocked.

I have an Asus a7m266 mobo
Athlon 1.4 266fsb cpu
and crucial 245mb ddr ram

I set the frequency thingie up to 143mhz so when I bootup it says 1503 mhz. Is that all I do?

yep... now put a heavy load on it for a while and make sure its stable. (no crashing or freezing)

i suppose then overclocking is a lot easier than i thought?

well... it can get much more complex once you really want to push it... then you have to get every componant in the computer to work together, make sure the voltage on the cpu is enough, memory settings are correct... etc.

now when you say all that stuff about pushing your comp a bit more if I want to juice it to the max... How exactly do I go about doing that? And will it cost me more money?

Well, first, if it is not stable at the speed you tried, or if you want to push it even further, you will probably need to look into additional cooling. Since you have a Asus, you should download (or install off of the CD) their PCProbe software. It will warn you if your proc begins to get too hot.

If you really want to go extreme, I've seen guys overclock your processor to 2.2 GHz and still have it stable. The trick is to supercool it down below zero degrees Celcius. This can get pretty expensive though. Couple hundred bucks for the equipment.

running pretty stable at 1503mhz. Hm.... I always wanted to be a computer freak in that way... link me up!~

Check this site out. (http://www.overclockers.com) They have all of the nitty-gritty stuff on overclocking. Plus lots of success stories.

If you want to overclock your CPU a lot more than you have then you'll need to go into the bios to increase the CPU/Core V and the memory voltage. If you have DDR then it should be 2.5v default for memory so try going up to 2.7v. Your CPU may need to go from 1.75v to 1.8 or 1.85v to overclock much higher. You could even modify your mobo and try 2.0v or higher but you would probably need to water cool for that.
