Damn that sucks. I was thinking about getting one just for the ethernet. Now I don't think I will. Anyone have a PS2 with an ethernet adapter or even 56k?

i bought playstation when it 1st came out years ago. It was great at the time, the latest and the greatest. After about 1 yr my cousins somehow got a hold of it(gamenapped it) and when i got it back the laser wouldnt track properly and i had to angle the machine or it would freeze up.
Later, playing was FF7 was a pain and i never did finish it. I than found out that it was some laser servo part thingy and that sony was supposed to replace it. Too late. FF7 was the last game i bought and thats when i started moving toward computer gaming.
Xbox?!?! If sony couldnt get theyre 1st gaming console right what makes us think MS can. I mean how many times did Windows crash on everyone?
The latest and greatest is right before your very eyes right now....... its your computer. You might have to upgrade your vid card or the whole system but it is worth it. Why invest $400+(pre order game packs) on an unproven system. We know they wont get it right. Bring back Atari :P
Crash and burn Xbox, crash and burn!

Haahaaa...that's just funny. Leave it up to Microsoft to make a console (that is essentially a PC in a box) and crash it. Glad to see MS is living up to their expectations.

Earlier models Playstations had problems with heat and the laser.

Microsoft Responds to Reported Xbox Problems (http://www.avault.com/news/displaynews.asp?story=10232001-144949)

Reports are appearing online that Xbox game consoles distributed to retail stores across the U.S. are experiencing problems. Gaming news site Shack News and Gaming Age both report receiving complaints from retail store employees at stores including Babbage's and Target that Xbox demo units are freezing and requiring rebooting on a regular basis. Other complaints related to audio problems and long load times also were reported to these enthusiast websites.

An official Microsoft Xbox representative this afternoon told the Adrenaline Vault that a few issues were bound to crop up with over 10,000 playable Xbox kiosks at retail over a month before launch: “Microsoft representatives are currently following up with retailers across the country to ensure proper functionality of kiosks. Overall, the displays are working great and we are on track to achieve our goal of having 100 percent of the Xbox interactive displays working correctly and demonstrating the Xbox difference.”

The purported Xbox difference might not be manifested in its launch, however, as the gaming giant appears to be experiencing problems much as Sony was plagued with difficulties during the debut of its PS2 console last year. Sony faced a number of issues on launch, including defective DVD drives, a defective BIOS in Japanese machines, and far fewer units shipped than projected. Microsoft announced earlier this month that it had delayed the launch of Xbox until Nov. 15 and that it would be unsure of how many units would ship at launch in the U.S. until a production plant in Mexico was running at full capacity. Further, a report appeared in August that speculated an Xbox launch delay due to a flaw in Intel’s design of the system's motherboard. Microsoft denied that report.

I wonder if every time the XBOX gets an error a blue screen will pop up asking you to press CTR ALT DEL and terminate the program:bigmouth:

Ha ha ha ha ha....... haa!
MS taking one step backwords in world domination. Xlost making the Sega dreamcast look like a better choice/buy and giving Sony a reason to throw more parties.
As far as my PS1. Apparently the 1st batch(es) of PS1's were built with better materials than the later models. The problem was the laser wouldnt track properly due to heat eventually warping the servo thingy(love to see me do tech support). It got so bad sometimes i would have to play it on its side(i did that b4 it was hip like it is with the new PS2 :P ). I dont totally blame my lil cousins but all my games came back scratched and i know it was abused. They could have left it on for long periods. Also it was recommended that the thing be unplugged cuz the power supply was internal.
