okay, if it's supposed to be tornados, just call me ms. quayle...

so yeah, i'm hangin out, just finished lunch with my friend clayton and he went back to work, and clayton calls... tornado just touched down 5 miles away and is headed right for us; i've got 20 minutes, tops. i have no basement, so i haul ass over to his lab, which is built like a brick ****house, sirens going off, wind whipping the leaves around, streets flooded in two feet of water, eesh. i have rarely been so scared.

but we made it there safely and actually had a good time hangin out in the basement for an hour. clayton was waiting for us with some cookies for my kid, and he gave him a piggy back ride, and i got to see a couple of other friends who work there, and normally can't come up for air long enough to hang out - free hour off work! yay!

so yeah, the tornado blew itself out before it got to town, and i got home safely. that's my story.

and the moral of the story is: who the hell builds any damned building in central illinois without a friggin basement?!?!?!?!

Hmm. I was out driving during lunch today and I heard that there was a tornado watch for the Chicago area until 7pm tonight. I wonder "Since when do they have 7 hour advanced tornado watches?". Maybe they knew what they were talking about this time.

I just got off the phone with mom and dad in Marissa IL. They had some pretty strong winds there too.

Glad to know you are okay.

Yeah, and what is up with that? No basement??

I heard that Kankakee got some damage (some roofs blown off a pool building at Olivette College). I also heard that there was hail around my home this afternoon.

wow, haven't thought about Kankakee in a long time. Knew a guy that wrote for the paper there.

When I see or hear of Kankakee I often think of a story that was in a book my family had when we were children. I think this guy gets in trouble for feeding the animals at the zoo and getting them all sick. In the end, he gets on a train going to Kalamazoo, Kankakee, and Oshkosh.
