Im thinking about going for the Best Buy deal right now with the free D-Link DI-704 Internet Gateway router. However, I'm rather uninformed when it comes to the world of networking. So, there are questions. First, who has used this router? What do you think of it? I've read some reviews, and they are all very favorable. Second. Can I use this thing to network computers while not being connected to the internet? My family has four computers altogether, and when everyone is home for the holidays well all bring them back. However, we only have dial-up back home (I have a cable modem here). So would I be able to use the router to link our computers together on a network at home without being connected to the internet? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really know next to nothing about networking. Thanks.

It has a 4 port switch built in so it shouldn't be a problem.

I think you could also hook up an external modem to it.

I personally like the SMC Barricade but I am currently using a Linksys router.

For more info try the forums on www.dslreports.com and www.practicallynetworked.com for more info.
