My friend just moved into a new apartment and is looking for free/cheap DSL. All I've heard about FreeDSL.com and FreeXDSL.com aren't good so far. Anybody know legit ones?

Or free ISP, if we can't find a good DSL place?

Thanks!

There is really no cheap DSL deal besides maybe PacBell. Probably the only cheap thing u can do is go through a cable modems deal or just browse around newspapers.

Try this site for starters. www.dslreports.com (http://www.dslreports.com)
If you live in pac bell territory consider your self blessed. They are some of the best and least expensive.

Around the DC area, i'm signing up for $39/month DSL @ 608kbps downstream and a full rebate on installation and harware charges through Flashcom. Thats a pretty good price.

Try Worldspy.com. Free ISP with no banners. The deal is that they track where you go on the net, but there is a workaround for that. I use the service, but I have uninstalled their software because you can simply go thru your dial-up networking. No Banners, No Tracking, No Cost!! Best of all worlds in my opinion.

Worldspy and DUN? How's that? http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

sorry. may have used wrong terminology. I signed up w/ worldspy, logged on once on their server. Then went in and modified the Dial Up Connector, putting in my password, then just use the DUN, not the worldspy software to log on. Essensially an end run around their software.
