well it's that time of the year again...the time of the year when my mom calls and asks what i want from santa claus...hehehehe, it's awesome having younger siblings/cousins who still believe.
anyway...i was going to get a bunch of small things, new case, harddrive, etc...but i think i want a digital camera...or camcorder...but the camera is the more feasible of the two.
what i really want is a handspring treo...but damn, they not coming out til 2002.
anyway...what's the best deal for under 500 bones?? preferrably under 350-400, but 500 is doable.

Sony CyberShot DSC-P5 3.34MP 1280X 960 8MB USB is REALLY close to $500.00
I have the CyberShot DSC-P1...which is the older model of this one...and it's awesome. I love the camera...takes incredible pictures and is small enough to put in your pocket. This new P5 is even smaller.
Sony Memory cost more than CF...but still...I highly recommend this camera...it's great.

forgive me for putting the question in a more popular forum. i guess since i was looking for the best cam for under 500 i should have posted in the got deals forum? or maybe as a WTB post in the For Sale/Trade Forum.
The only reason i posted here was because nobody replied in the other forum...and the Offtopic forum often had postings that could be listed elsewhere.
I thought it was the duty of the moderator to move posts that aren't in accordance with the topic.
as for not using the search...you're right, i was lazy...wanted instant gratification without the hassle of searching, my bad...and i apologize.
i'll be certain to be more prudent in deciding where to post my questions in the future and posting it twice was a bad idea.
i also apologize if i misread your tone...but the all caps HARDWARE kinda set it for me.
Apex, could you please remove this thread or move it to the hardware forum? thank you.
I respond to hardware threads all the time.

Remember what Apex said in a suckage thread (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=190066#post190066) about a wrong forum post.
He was lucky enough to have caught the attention of the GAM who gives a "rats ass". I told the GAM's that moving the thread is a courtesy, simply deleting the threads of people who lack the ability to post in the right forums is ok as well.
geez, i dont see why people make such a big deal about this thread being in the "wrong forum." really, what is the problem. haven't we more important things to worry about?
anyway, definitely get something with 3.3 megapixels (if not more). but that shouldn't be a problem given your price range. also, optical zoom is better than digital zoom, as digital decreases the resolution. i have the canon s20 and its really nice. small enough to fit in your pocket and takes excellent pictures. i can give you a few samples if you'd like. ;) before i bought this camera, i researched it thorougly and read lots of reviews. the only bad thing i read was something about picture quality in total darkness or somehting. i can't remember exactly what it said, but it was dumb. who takes pictures in the dark anyway. oh, the only thing that i don't like about this camera is that to view pics that you've just taken, you have to turn the wheel thing to go to a different mode. going to this mode, you turn the camera off. kinda annoying, and i think it may decrease battery life if you want to look at the pics each time you take one. that's my only complaint though. overall, i'm quite satsified with the cam, and its a great price ($400) for a high quality 3.3 mp camera. get it at amazon using some coupons and your amex blue for a decent deal.

hey this is my bad...completely, i got selfish and posted it here. even though i knew it was meant to be in the hardware forum. i get annoyed too when others mispost...but then i go and do it. what's that say about me?
sorry if i annoyed anyone.
