What are you unemployed people doing?

Seeing zenbooty take an excruciating amount of time and effort disecting fakesurfer's post, it leads me to wonder: what the hell are you people who don't have jobs doing all day?

Please avoid the obvious "looking for a job, nutcake" or "posting on G|A". Yeah, I know.

Me, if I was unemployed, I think I'd probably try one of those nutty "work from home and displace poor elderly people" schemes advertised on TV. That, or the put little advertisements in newspapers schemes. Whatever, some sort of scheme a normally employed person might not have the time for.

But the problem is that these schemes are usually schemes publicised by the schemers to get you to pay in order to learn about the schemes. In other words, scams.

I know I did a lot of work on my house when I was out of work. I stripped many layers of old paint off some of the most beautiful oak woodwork you could hope to see. Then I sold the house. :(

I was on unenjoyment until last week - I exhausted my bennies. I would call recruiters and get bummed, apply online and get bummed, sleep til 11 am cuz I was bummed, etc.

I'd read the occasional tech article online, plan my take over of the planet, get drunk, hardly go outside, watch too much TV - basically I became a full-time internet junkie and couch potato cuz I had no real money to go have fun with.

Wake up at noon or 1, go to beaches, go to church, parties on weekends, watch movies, hang out with friends, go out to eat, play basketball, play video games (Just finished Devil May Cry and Max Payne), take online courses(CCNA), download songs, make cd's, go to starbucks, clean the house, read...and look for a job.

Hmm, most days this unemployed by choice person does whatever the hell I feel like doing. Doing nothing can be elevated to an art form. And if you happen to be financed by an overindulgent husband even better. Lately I have been car shopping, the '02s are here and my TT is giving me fits.

But besides that my new favorite thing to do in the middle of the day is watch movies. Going to the movies during the week in the middle of the day is the best! Or even watching them on TV. I watched the entire 2 seasons of Twin Peaks a few weeks ago 29 hours worth.

you're not considered unemployed if you're not looking for work.

and in other news...you are considered "underemployed" if you work less than full time, or have a job that is not on a par with employment for which you are qualified
