i use the smallest plastic ties that you find in hardware stores, about every 4-5 inches, and they keep the cables neat.
I did the same thing with my ATA cables. I read a suggestion about that somewhere on the web (folding the cable into a W shape and tying with the cable ties). I also like to use the cable ties to "dress" extra length of other cables behind my computer desk so that there is less of a tangled mess back there.
