I am thinking about getting either the AMD Athlon XP 1600+ and was wondering if it will be as good as the AMD TBird 1.4 for operating systems other than Windows XP. I am upgrading my system and so far I have an ECS K75SA Motherboard. I will probably eventually use XP on it, but so far I only have access to Windows 2000. Will that run just as good with the XP 1600+ as it would on the TBird 1.4? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Atlhlon XP is just a naming scheme for the processor line. it has nothing to do with what version of windows is run on it. any os which supports the x86 architecture (i.e. win95, 98, winnt, 2k, linux, beos, etc.) will run just fine on the athlon xp and it should run better than on a tbird. i dont know if better is the proper term, maybe just faster.
The AMD Athlon XP 1600+ clock speed is 1.4Ghz. It will be a bit faster than 1.4 Ghz Tbird due to the new features (http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1543&p=3) added.
AMD and Intel just cut prices (http://www.vr-zone.com/index.html#1834) on their cpus today.
