Eh. . . wanna be more specific? I've never heard any prominent incompatible problems between hp comps and creative stuff. . .but what exactly is it you're working with?

hp8566c running win2k.

creative soundblaster pci 16.

the card installed fine,... resources show everything's all set,... no conflicts,...

but the sound that comes out is very soft. we know how loud the sounds can get b/c before we did the reinstall (format the drive and install win2k) it came out just fine.

any ideas? =)

thanks!

make sure your drivers are up to date, and are win2k compliant.

What kind of speakers are you outputting to? Are they powered? If not, that could be your problem that the card doesn't have enough power to speakers.

well,... the win2k drivers have been loaded. however, what's strange is that on creative's site,... at one point, it says that there are no drivers for it. and then somewhere else, it says that microsoft's win2k pro disk will automatically detect and install it,... and then on the disk, it has a win2k driver folder. =)

confused yet?

the speakers are not powered,... and they worked fine under win98.

took a look at it again today,... what am i overlooking? *argh*

oh yeah,... called creative too. they had no idea, but didn't want to really bother with it since i violated hp's "warranty" by wiping the drive. *sigh*

am i just sol????

Well with my experience, the wintookay drivers worked better for my Live! card. That might be your case too. Also since the speakers are unpowered, that most likely is the problem in my opinion. Since that card is a lil' old. It just can't pump as much juice into it. But then again, maybe I'm wrong.
