Commenting on Amazon.com's decision to switch to a less-costly Linux-based infrastructure...

"A Microsoft representative, however, warned that short-term savings seen by Amazon could turn into a long-term increase in costs."

Ha! Does this sound like someone with confidence in his monopolistic power, or what????

Now, I don't think Bill Gates (porn name "MacroHard") is all bad... I love the fact that I can build a competent computer for $300 (primarily due to the standardization on Windows). But that comment is truly snooty.

Their argument makes no sense...

But there are hidden costs to Linux, Microsoft argues. "I think a lot of customers are lured by the apparent low price of Linux," said Doug Miller, director of competitive strategy for Microsoft's Windows division. "They don't have a real issue with Linux, but it ends up costing them in the long run."

With Linux, customers "end up being in the operating systems business," managing software updates and security patches while making sure the multitude of software packages don't conflict with each other," Miller said. "That's the job of a software vendor like Microsoft."

Our company is trying to upgrade from windows NT to XP this upcoming spring. Why can't we do it now???
because we have to freakin test everyhing to make sure that our software packages don't conflict with a new OS.....
same freakin thing..
That's the reason why our company didn't upgrade to 2000.
also, every new service pack, or security patch has to be tested with our software as well...so freakin annoying...
