I found this on the net this morning. Enjoy. -OC

I used to work in a computer store and one day we had a gentleman call
in with a smoking power supply. The service representative was having a bit of trouble convincing this guy that he had a hardware problem.

Service Rep: Sir, something has burned within your power supply.

Customer: I bet that there is some command that I can put into the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file that will take care of this.

Service Rep: There is nothing that software can do to help you with
this problem.

Customer: I know that there is something I can put in... some
command... maybe it should go into the CONFIG.SYS.

[After a few minutes of going round and round]

Service Rep: Okay, I am not supposed to tell anyone this but there is a hidden command in some versions of DOS that you can use. I want you to edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT and add the last line as C:\DOS\NOSMOKE and
reboot your computer.

[Customer does this]

Customer: It is still smoking.

Service Rep: I guess you'll need to call Microsoft and ask them for a
patch for the NOSMOKE.EXE.

[The customer then hung up. We thought that we had heard the last of
this guy. But NO; he calls back four hours later!]

Service Rep: Hello, Sir, how is your computer?

Customer: I called Microsoft and they said that my power supply is
incompatible with their NOSMOKE.EXE and that I need to get a new one. I was wondering when I can have that done and how much it will cost....

Oh, man. "Please step away from the computer, sir. I don't want it getting hurt." :heh:

Sounds about right. There should be a licencing requirement to use a telephone.

haha. love it! you should have told him that the power from the wall was too strong so he should stick his finger in the wall socket to drain some out before he plugged in the comp. He probably would've done it. :heh:

I happened to take a call at work the other day from a woman who has, in 2 weeks deleted half of her registry TWICE and attempted to blame it on her 3 year old. This last time she "supposedly" was trying to re-install AOL 6.0 on a pentium mmx 166mhz with hardly any ram and of course NO room on her 1 gig harddrive..she got some error and then proceeded to go NUTs DELETING like crazy..she called to ask if she could bring her system in for us to "fix" it..and wanted to know if she should back her files up before hand. I told her it would probably be a good idea if she had any programs and whatnot she wanted to keep, and then she says.."do I just put a cd-rom in the computer and click backup?" so I asked her if she had purchased a burner and she said.."don't I just put in a CD?"..I had to explain the whole concept of burning cd's to her and how you CAN'T just do it on a regular cd-rom drive..Then to top it off (I was on the phone with her at LEAST 25 minutes)..she told me she could NOT get on the internet-that she kept clicking the icon to get on explorer but couldn't. Having to explain to her that she has to be ON her AOL account before she can actually use the web just about threw her into a seizure.:banghead:

Ah yes, the old NOSMOKE.EXE story. That one's been around for a while, but it still is pretty funny every time I read it. Do a google on "nosmoke.exe", and you'll see that quite a few people have seen this one:
...Results 1 - 30 of about 502...

it's not a nosmoke.exe problem, he just needs to update his antismoke drivers and it should all be good... and maybe "upgrade" the power supply just in case
