It's got a 700 Mhz Duron processor in it right now. I was thinking about popping in a 950Mhz Duron. I believe that is the fastest version of the Duron that has the same core as the 700. If I understand correctly, I shouldn't have any problems swapping the processors as long as that is the case.

Has anyone done an upgrade like this? If so, I'd appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thanks,

It's my wife's computer and I am hoping to save it from obsolescence with this upgrade. Actually it's a pretty decent system. My thought is to upgrade the processor and bring the RAM to 512MB (with the 256 stick that came with the XP upgrade) and go ahead and install XP for her. It running ME now which runs more crappily than 98SE on my Pentium 200 crapper.

I expected that someone would reply with the idea of tossing it out, but since it is still working pretty well, I think a $50-60 upgrade is a more sensible alternative to building her a new system.

Not to mention the fact that I will be able to spend more on components for an Athlon XP system with the money I save. :-)

Thanks again.
