View Full Version : Old Laptop Wanted
I need a cheap laptop for word processing and playing divx movies. Lookin for:
-CD-ROM drive
-200 mhz or higher cpu
My email is
[email protected] -- drop me one and we'll talk about it!
I've had two offers gone amiss from my parents:
My dad was going to *give* me a Dell Latitude from work, but that didn't work. My mom told me that MetLife (her company) was selling their old Toshiba Satellites for $100, but that didn't work either.

someone else will have to correct me if im wrong but i think you'll have problems with playing divx movies with only 200mhz to work with.
my moms laptop has problems sometimes (because of its horrible video card and all the crap preloaded on it prolly) and it has a p3 500.

I've got a toshiba satelite 1625CDT if you're interested. I think it's a 475MHZ machine. It has a bad floppy drive and the cover plate is missing off the cd-rom drive, but the cd-rom drive works fine. e-mail me if you're interested.

You know, it might be the program that you are using to play the divx files. If you are using Windows Media player 7.0, that is probably your problem... it is very resource intensive. You'd be better off going back to Media player 6.4... it works for most of my friends with low-end systems..

Divx requires a good amount of CPU power!
Windows®
Pentium II 450 processor or equivalent
64 MB or more of RAM
8 MB or higher video card
DirectX 7 or 8
Minimum 24-bit color when using Windows Media Player
Linux
Pentium II 450 processor or equivalent
64 MB or more of RAM
8 MB or higher video card

Hey, Hapoo, where'd you get those sys requirements? Because I've never had problems running Divx, even on my K6-2 400 system, and that was even when it had a 4 meg vid card.

I have a acernote light model 350pc. It has a 773hdd, a p120 cpu, floppy, sound, monitor out, 32mb memory, and comes with a external cd reader. The cd reader is a nec multispin xp3 model with the power cord and works great. The lap top also comes with the power cord, battery (lasts 2 hours), and a bag. The unit has windows 3.1 on it and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to load the driver off 95 to get the cdr working. It is in like new condition. There is NOTHING wrong with it in any way. I will take best offer or trade or combination of the 2. If I am to put a price on it would be somewhere in the 175-200 range. Very nice can take pictures if REALLY interested in it. You can email me here (
[email protected]) or for faste response msn messenger me with my email name (

Took from my thread just incase you hadden't seen it yet.

now that i think about it it might have been on media player 7.
it was a while ago and i havent really had a reason to try since.
Wow, I had no idea DiVX was so demanding! I found an old DELL Latitude CP lying around the house from my dad's office, it's a 233mhz with 96mb RAM...
A DVD drive wouldn't work with a 233, or would it? I need a CD drive with it though, if anyone has one for sale, clue me in!
Thanks

A 233 would most defineately work with a DVD drive... but you'd have to have a decent videocard/decoder card to put in it. As long as it has an AGP slot you should be okay. Maybe swap some parts if you have them to check before you spend any money though.
