Funny what an unexpected click of the shutter button can do, eh?

Seriously, that shot was NOT planned..... but at least it looks better than the other pic I used (heh).

Great job distinguishing "article" vs. "review." As a new operating system, I didn't want to necessarily give it a full "review" just yet, since I just know if I gave great marks, people would start commenting on every single incompatibility & security hole in the book. In my opinion, it's virtually impossible to test a full operating system on one computer with limited hardware.

(...and that's why HardOCP didn't get an overall rating like they half-expected) -- look on the www.hardocp.com 's main page and you'll see what I mean.

it was a nice review GuruX, but XP said it would not support my AMI raid controller, so I put it on the girls computer instead. I never knew nice teenage girls knew such words. It has been 16 hours ago and they are still using that language, whew. They have switched over to Caldera until I can get Win 2000 pro back on there computer (Dual Boot). He,he better them than me.

Hi. I loved your review of win XP, but a couple of clarifiers are needed. For one, you can rip mp3's from within windows media player 8 by d/ling a copy of cyberlink MP3 power encoder. It is $9.95 and allows changing from WMA to MP3 and back in the control panel in Media player 8 at will. And it works great. I had a real problem playing DVD movies as well and the same company offers a lite and full DVD player that is fully compatable and of better quality than my ATI card's DVD player. Last, my copy of easy CD creator does not work in XP, even with an update. But XP had a built in burner program that works better that Roxio's easy CD creator 5 did on my Win ME system. I hope this helps someone out there. Peace.

Thanks for the information. :)

For basic CD recording tasks, the built-in CD burning application does a good job. I myself still use Nero however, since it support more complex CD's (Video CD's, Enhanced CD's, etc.)

ok.. question..
I thought u could rip with WMP8 but it would be at a lower quality, ie 96kbps or something.

:bawl: well it realy get me why the bg who ha over the price just be thankfull your not living in new zealand
xp home full $399
xp home upgrd $299

xp pro full $899
xp pro upgrd $599

and when its price for winXP pro upg is converted from us dollars (i managed to find it for $189.95 on the web) it still works nearly a full 100 bucks cheaper than the cheapest prices here of $549.99

so if anyone over there is feeling rather generous and would like to donate a copy of winXP pro upg i would be ever so greatfull

 your newbie has spoken

That was in some beta versions when Microsoft couldn't decide whether to support MP3 ripping or not.

There are no current MP3 encoding options in WMP8 by default anymore.
