View Full Version : Man tries to board plane with knives and is RELEASED: WTF?

Memo

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- Seven airport security workers were fired after a man -- armed with nine knives, a can of Mace and a stun gun -- tried to board a United Airlines flight this past weekend. He managed to slip through a security checkpoint with most of his weapons.

The man, Suban Gurung, 27, was arrested Saturday night and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and attempting to board an aircraft with a weapon, both misdemeanor charges. Gurung, who said he was from Nepal, was released on bond and told to appear in court December 19.

A little later in the article:

Gurung listed the same West Hollywood Avenue apartment address in Chicago as Ayub Ali Khan, who is being held as a material witness in the September hijackings.

Now, why the hell would they release him? That's just messed up. I know we shouldn't be assuming all middle-easterners are terrorists, but can we at least assume the ones that are trying to board weapons and have apparent connections to other known terrorists are?

Especially not if he was known to have the same address as the material witness that they have identified... is that part for real? I dont remember reading that part. Not that I doubt you UT but there is a lot of false information going around.

Just the one, asuming he gives 2 apiece to his 4 friends on board...

Maybe they're going to follow him.

Better yet, if I were running the Gov. I would release him and have some cloak and dagger CIA types pick him up before he gets more than a block away, then, well, remember Braveheart.

Press release would just show that he dissappeared.

I heard about this on the local (Chicago) news radio this morning. Here's a few more details I found on the web:

After being released on bond on those charges early Sunday, he was rearrested late in the day by FBI agents and charged with a federal felony count of attempting to carry a weapon on an aircraft, said Randall Samborn, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago.

The seven security workers, including one supervisor, were fired Sunday for failing to detain Gurung after two folding knives were discovered in his pocket when he passed through a metal detector.
The radio also mentioned that he got caught because of a random bag check just before boarding.

I think Ed's point of view about him being released and then followed around makes sense, that's what I would do, try to get deeper into the cell roots. Follow the all the people that he comes in contact with, and so on until you have the whole cell. THen come in on your saddles and guns ablazin. It'll scare the other cells too.

i heard this on the local news (chicago) before goin to school. he got stopped at the first check point, and they confiscated two knives, then at a random bag check they got all the other stuff. total of 9 knives.

now what's f***ed up is that after he posted bond, he then attempted to go back to the airport. what a f***nut.

hmmm...well if he IS a terrorist, then it explains the insanity..but i think that the FBI has his phones tapped and is following him around in an ice cream truck 24/7...that way they can get info on other terrorists..thats why they would let him go
