In my area upstate NY, I can get road runner for 30 bucks a month through my school which is a lot better IMHO than the freedsl service offered... just my two cents

I just got selected to receive "free" DSL service (from www.freedsl.com (http://www.freedsl.com) ), but after checking out my options, I am underwhelmed. I would appreciate the comments of this forum regarding this matter.

Thanks,

Franco

hmmm, the $19.95 offer doesn't sound half bad. faster than the $9.95 deal, plus it comes with a free modem. that's what i would go with if i were you. unless you want it free. you pay for what you get!

yeah that one sounds pretty good to me, i'd take it. $19.99 is ridiculously cheap.

That would sux now wouldn't it? Personally i wouldn't opt for freedsl.com. Northpoint.net allow you to compare a few dsl providers at your area.

www.freedsl.com (http://www.freedsl.com) is run by a lot of professionals. In fact, a lot of EarthLink people went over to work for FreeDSL.

DSL is DSL for the most part. Same line from almost any company you choose. Except, the lower plans with FreeDSL limit your speed a little bit.

When they say up to 1.5, that means that it can spike up to that high. It usually means 384k, but up to 1.5. Depends on where you are in relation to the office it comes from, and the quality of the line, etc, etc, etc.

The only thing that seperates FreeDSL from the other DSL companies is the fact that it is a marketing company. They sell ads and information about your account, how long you surf, where you surf, what you do online, etc etc...

Not bad, except you gotta buy a modem. Look into getting EarthLink DSL for 6 months at $49.95. You get the 2nd and 3rd months free, and after 6 months (you get free install and all that too) you can cancel and go to PacBell or something, and still have all the equipment and no cancellation penalty.
