ATI Radeon 8500 drivers?

I ordered the Radeon 8500 for my new Athlon XP system. I understand the card had some serious driver issues, but the guy who sold it to me said ATI has updated the drivers so they are bug-free. True? I got it for 209 bucks so it was a much better deal than any GeForce3 out there.
