Just for the experience, I tried running an XP install on a (freshly reformatted) spare hard drive here at work. (This is my only XP experience to date.) During the install, it asks for the password to assign to the Administrator account. I left it blank (the way we typically install NT on stand-alone equipment computers). I then had to create at least one user account for the system (I created two called User1 and User2). Now whenever I want to log on to the system, the only options it gives me are User1 and User2. Both are administrator priv by default. If I go into account management, it shows User1 and User2 (and disabled Guest). However, if I try to create an new account named Administrator, it tells me there is already a user by that name.

Under Computer Management / Users, I see Administrator listed (as well as a non-disabled HelpAssistant "Remote Desktop Help Assistance Account" - hmm). But is there ever a way to be able to log on using the Administrator account?

Delete the other two accounts and when you reboot admin will be the default account. From there on you can create other accounts and still have admin as an option.

to be able to login as ADMINISTRATOR... you need to get into Settings Control Panel.....And click on I think User/Password icon.

The first screen you see will have a option to change the ways user login. Click on that and Uncheck the 2 box.
Log out and log back in.

FYI. you will not get that pretty XP login Splash screen but the Classic W2K login.

hope this work

well you can login as ADMIN change password then turn the XP pretty screen back in : )

Or else if you on a network and someone decide to browse the network.......and happen to stumbble upon you system and login as ADMIN because you didn't set password.......well get the point.
I like XP, can browse any workgroup. : )

Like I said, these are stand-alone (non-networked) machines, so if someone manages to browse into them, they're using some pretty advanced hardware (and the government probably wants to get their hands on it ;) ).

Here is the deal...XP by default needs at least one admin account. And if you have 2 admin accounts you can take off one of the admin accounts. but you have to leave at least one in there. You cannot delete both...XP requires at least one.

if you want to login as administrator without disabling the welcome screen here's what you do. Reboot the computer. When the welcome screen comes up, give the 3 finger salute 2 times. This will give you the classic win2k login screen.
