I don't know if I have a hard drive ready to fail or not. I attempted to defrag Drive C the other day and of course it stated that I should use scandisk to check for errors.
When I use scandisk, the procedure repeats itself over and over. The blue squares which proceed to the right go approximately 80%, return, then go to about 20%, and this repeats itself over and over.
I then try defrag and it goes to 7%, back to zero, back to 7% and this repeats itself. I used BCM diagnostics to analyze my hard drive and everything comes up OK. What's next?

hit ctrl alt del and close all of the programs that are not necessary and then try to defrag

I did that and it still did the same thing. I also attempted to defrag it right after I booted up. Same thing.

The 3 finger salute should work but whats better is to reboot in safe mode than defrag. This will work even quicker.

Haha, 3 Finger salute......anyways, I'd recommend doing it in safe mode as well. If it keeps restarting in safe mode then their MIGHT be a problem. But it just sounds like some other task is interfering.

if you have broadband internet, unplug it, disable, whatever. It is constintly writing to your HD, and when anythign is written, the Scandisk or defrag program will restart.
