I'm going in to interview tomorrow for a computer tech job at the Best Buy here in town. I was wondering if anyone knew what the pay range is for their computer techs?

I don't think the pay is all that great, but a buddy of mine works there just for the discount (cost + 5%). He's quitting b/c he bought all the home audio equipment he needed.

It's a Best Buy here in Phoenix and I'm just wondering about how much an hour I should negotiate for.

I could get used to cost + 5% as a discount.

Yeah, You gotta love Zim. Who else picks their best friend by characteristics such as absorption and conductivity?

my friend has a job at best buy, only sucky thing is they buy video game systems and games at cost so no discount on them

Fry's didn't call me back yet. Let's not dwell on that too much, ok? ;)
I'd prefer Fry's over BestBuy, as they sell cases, Mobos, etc, but a starving student can't be too picky.

Fry's would be nice b/c then you don't have to worry about customer service. No one expects customer service from Fry's b/c they just suck at it. You can be an ass and it would be the norm at Fry's.

Thanks guys. If this one wasn't meant to be, I'll just get another one in the next few weeks.
If you were an a$$hole at Fry's you'd probably get a service award. Fry's is just some sort of a grand psychological experiment to see how much crap geeks will put up with to get their technology fix.

What types of things do they ask you during the interview? Is it the usual "what is the hardest thing you have ever done" types of questions or is there something else I should plan out answers for?

good looking out! like i've said numerous times, best buy sucks!...but i suppose if you're goin to work there, the techs is where i'd want to be. they're really hush hush about people pay and stuff. it's really anal. if only the people there knew how much ass kissing and stuff really got them. if you get up to be a tech sup...then YOU'RE IN THE MONEY. that's one of the highest paid sup positions. but you also get dealt with a lot of inventory duties which blows.

In order to get the cost+5% you have to work FT for 6 months

Uhhh no you dont. After thirty days at FT or PT anyone is elligable and if your hired for the holiday season your discount goes into effect immediatly.

Beast Buy sucks, they never hire me. I cant even pass there damn phone test, (if they still have it) NO BB in manhattan so I guess I should get to outa shape

don't worry about that phone test...it's only to weed out the really stupid people...

"are you currently taking any illegal drugs...
press 1 for yes
press 2 for no"

"is smoking pot fun?

press 2 for no"

etc etc...

honestly, if you just keep retaking the phone test eventually you'll get through, and get a real interview. it's a joke, but true, i know people that failed the phone test like twice and still got hired.

The phone test is now online and yes, there are about three questions on if it's ok to steal. Gee, I wonder how to answer those? They might as well ask "If your boss makes you mad, is it ok to come in after the store closes and smack him over the head with a bat so he won't do it again? Press 1 for yes and press 2 for no."
