I was reading newegg's reviews of the Epox -8kha+ mobo when I came upon a post by some guy who claims that the Epox does not support DDR ram with ECC. Well confound it i just got 512mb of crucial DDR w/ ECC. Is this true? I thought ECC deals directly with the RAM sticks itself, not the mobo.

If I remember correctly, the Epox doesn't REQUIRE ECC ram, but that shouldn't exclude you from using it....

Well I don't think any mobos REQUIRE ECC ram, it's just a feature the Ram has. I think that man is wrong about the Epox not supporting it...

I thought there was something about needing ECC ram if you are going to use 2 512 Meg DDR chips in a KT266 motherboard... or was that certified?

No, if a motherboard does not support ECC you may not be able to use the ECC ram in it.

Damn... so it really depends on whether the mobo supports it?? What would happen if I put ECC ram in a non ECC mobo, would it still work albeit the ECC? I'm pissed... that -8kha+ better support it...

Well, according to this (http://www.epox.com/HTML/ENGLISH/products/motherboard/ep-8kha+.htm), the epox board does not support ECC... blast!!
So, I'm asking you hardware techies, if I were to put ECC ram in there, would it still work without the ECC or would it not work completely?
Damn I'm mad...

Maybe you could also post this in the AMD Forum? You might get more of a response there...

Nah, I think I'm just going to go with an MSI board. I'm looking at the MSI K7T266 PRO2-RU, which has the USB 2.0 ports and built in RAID feature. Probably not as good as the Epox but hell, I don't understand why out of all the mobo manufacturers Epox decided not to support ecc. Oh, and the MSI is red too, I love red mobos.

Hehe, but can you actually see your board once you install it?

well, I got my Epox 8KHA+ and used 1 stick of ECC RAm for a test and it did work. So there! I think it won't work with ECC if you use the full 1.5GB or somethin. Anyway 1 or 2 sticks should do fine.

sho.gun wait till you see some benchies on the EP-8KHA2 it will be quite fast. Also Epox will be releasing a Dual AMD board soon that you'll just love to have.

After reading 6 or so reviews for the MSI K7T266 PRO2-RU, the benches seem to show that its actually faster than the epox and Soyo that was reviewed here at G|A. I'm actually starting to fall in love with the MSI, but do you have any more info on the EP-8KHA2? And by the way, I'm too broke to buy anything dual AMD...

Why, oh why did I buy ECC ram...
I think I'm gonna order that MSI board tonight, unless someone comes up with a good reason of why I shouldn't.

Give me tonight, I will talk to a friend that works in Epox and see if the board will work with ECC ram.
Why did you buy ECC ram anyways?????

It was only 1 or 2 dollars more than the other ones. Mine's a Crucial 256mb DDR registered w/ECC.
