The newspaper says this one is gonna be a big one. You don't need a telescope. Should be around 2ish 3ish AM.

I'm leaving soon with my camera and tripod.
edit: nevermind...I forgot that meteor "showers" were the kind where they fall really really fast... I can't take a picture of that at night...at least with my camera... oh well.

well it's a lot compared to other years. yes this meteor shower is actually annual. I heard at one point they were expecting 1000 per hour

Well what can I say... it was pretty amazing, I've never seen so many before. Actually the only time I've seen a shooting star was on a school trip to mexico. So yeah, I went outside at 3 am, threw down my sleeping bag and proceeded to stare. I'd say I saw well over 150 of em, some are really bright. I also kept on seeing very faint lights moving across the sky, I was like Oh man I just saw an alien spacecraft. But then I realized it coulda been satellites orbiting the earth. But then again who knows...
Before, I decided to just sleep the rest of the night outside, but at around 5:45 or so I thought about my flannel sheets...

Of course you can take a picture of it, and it will look mad good, if you know what you are doing, however you do need a nice camera, something in the lines of at least a simple SLR or we can all hope DLR. What i am saying is you will need to manually adjust your shutter speed and your apreture

You should've gone with your other roommates to Malibu to see them.

what woulda been really cool is if you opened the aperture up really high and the shutter speed really long so that not only did you see the meteors... but as they moved they made light streaks on your picture.
You wouldnt have been able to tell what they were i guess... but it woulda looked like a time lapse thing... just on a photograph.
Damn.. i shoulda done that. Except i went out at eleven... didnt see jack... came inside... the news said it was at 2-3... sat down on the couch... fell asleep... woke up at three... forgot... went up to bed... missed it... kicked myself in teh morning for missing it.

What time was it supposed to be at for us central time zonians? Cause I was up at 3:00 my time and didn't see squat. (Which is ok, since a) it wasn't something I HAD to see & b) when my cousins & I were young, we were camping in the backyard and saw some. :) )

I don't know where everyone else is, but here (west of Philadelphia about 20 miles) was a good show. I got up at 4am and a couple of friends came over about 4:15. I'm sort of out in the country so there's no streetlights or neighbors with obnoxious floodlights. We stayed out until about 5:30. I noticed the meteors seemed to come in waves where there was a flurry for a few minutes then none for a few. There were several times where they were coming at a rate of 22 per minute (yes, us nerds counted). Actually saw two explode--made a really cool flash in the sky. It was cold but I am very glad I got my butt out of bed.
