hi, after turning my on after it's been on standby for like an hour, it makes a real high-pitched noise. then it just stopped randomly. it also has a tendancy to leave horizontal lines across the screen after closing/minimizing windows. i have a 19" KDS visual sensations monitor. thanks!

I really don't know why...but usually monitors usually make a really high pitch sound...it's normal I think...TV's do it and regualar crt's do it...When I walk into my room or any room with a TV or CRT in it...I can usually tell if the Monitor is on by the high pitch sound.

About the line...I think that KDS uses a trnitron tube for the moniter...and I think that those tubes puts horizontal lines around 1/3 from the top of the screen and 2/3. I don't know why they do that. but it is. I hope this answers your questions.

How long was the noise? If it was just a few seconds, could of been the monitor degausing.

yeah, doesn't last any longer than a minute. thanks for the info everyone.

that noise is the sound of electrons hitting the screen. There should always be a really high pitched noise (unaudible), If you can here it i'm guessing that the electrons are hitting something they shouldn't be.

I can always tell if a tv or monitor is on without being in the same room, weird...

ok, what i noticed just now was that as i turned on my computer, no funny noise was made UNTIL the windows 2k boots up into the "please wait...windows is starting up screen." (the one where it has the light blue background) the high pitched noise started then and lasted for maybe 50 sec. or so. is that normal? thanks.

I'd say 50 seconds is kinda long for degaussing... I'm not sure what your problem is, maybe just the monitor adjusting the refresh rate or something. Could be a bad thing though...

Hmmm...maybe it's just the end on the moniters life...I recomend a samsung...they are pretty good...I like mine a lot. My bro has a KDS moniter...and it's worked for him really great. I don't know whats wrong...is it still under warranty? Try asking them...or see the faqs...or just send it back to them and see if they can replace it or fix it for you. tell us if it's fixed or what you did...it helps all of us.

ahhh, thats just the refresh rate your monitor is running at, its very possible that something in your monitor is tuned to that frequency, when your monitor runs at that refresh it causes a high pitched noise, once your computer boots into win2k it changes refresh rates and the sound goes away.
