I hate to break it to you, but they never were good. NONE of them. But as simple minded children any cartoon is great.

Yah, defineately... That is when a lot of cartoons that came on Saturday mornings were just re-edited Anime. Adult themes, characters, and plots...
As for the Tick... I love the cartoon version, but I'm sorry, the live action looks like a dud... and if the teasers make it look bad, what does that say for the actual series?

Yup.. those were the "golden ages" for cartoons... Oh well, go check the Cartoon Network for the "rebroadcast" of some of them.
Eh. . . I've watched them. I am a cartoon junkie myself. But the honest to goodness real fact is that all cartoons aren't really good. They just appeal to the kiddies of that generation and when you get older you hate the new stuff.

I have to agree in some respects. I really did hate the new stuff. I'm not a cartoon junkie like some of the others here, but I'll stick to the stuff of my day. none of this new stuff for me. and new for me is Tiny Toons on. I really disliked Tiny Toons. don't flame me for that, i know many people liked Tiny Toons, I just didn't happen to be one of them. no new stuff for me.
don't even get me started on the various *mon cartoons, be they Digi, Poke or otherwise.

i've DLed like 30 episodes of the tick. each one cracks me up. but yeah, i dunno about the live action one... is the cowboy bebop on cartoon network supposed to be any good? it's different than the original in a bad way, at least from what i've heard.

Supposedly, the dubbing is pretty bad from my understanding. The people I've talked to say it's better to watch the subtitled version.

in a blinding fit of nostalgia, i rented transformers: the movie recently. i'll be damned if that isn't as good as it was .. what, 15 years ago? you can be sure that as soon as i find the GI Joe movie, i'll rent that one too.
M.A.S.K. .. man, i totally forgot about that one! i'll add bucky o'hare and the older Turtles to the list as well.
i'm with the stodgy old guys that think the cartoons today absolutely bite ass. what's worse is that they're replacing some of the cartoons with these terrible junior-high dramas, ala saved by the bell. gimme a friggin break! and i don't think the power rangers even deserve comment.
but spigs has a point. there are some cartoons i enjoyed as a kid that i just don't get anymore. take "The Great Pumpkin" for instance. i watched it before halloween because it's a classic and tradition compels me to do so. but sitting there watching it, i realized that i just don't find the peanuts entertaining, save snoopy. i used to love 'em as a kid though.
but back on topic. i haven't seen the live action tick yet, though i've been meaning to. i accidently taped that worthless temptation island last week instead of it. doh! chances are i won't see it this week either. ah well. the cartoon was awesome though, shame it didn't last.

I like the cartoon series of the tick. Tried really really hard to watch the Tick last week and not change the channel. But after 15 minutes it's was just torture. Not funny at all. That show is not going to last.
Good cartoons I remember were X-men, Incredible Hulk, Spider-man and his Amazing Friends. The news ones I've been getting into are Samurai Jack and the Justice League. Anyone else?

There are still certain cartoons that command my attention to this day... but by what you have said, "you've just grown beyond them". Well, I say.. just take your time and don't grow up too fast... there's plenty of time for that. Trust me!
Either way, we all are entitled to our own opinions, and it looks like so far we disagree with yours (wow...how could that have happened? :hihi: )... but that's ok, I can agree to disagree.
Cartoons like the "original" Justice League/Superfriends (before Jana/Jace/Wendy/Marvin), Scooby Doo, Speed Buggy, Jabberjaw, and the rest of the Hanna-Barbera Saturday Lineup... are classics in my book.
Also there were the "more adult" Robotech, Transformers, Galaxy Rangers, the "original" Voltron, Thundercats, SilverHawks, Bravestarr, He-Man, M.A.S.K., and a long list of other cartoons that were really good in their day...
Then again, maybe you AREN'T a "real" cartoon junkie... I guess it depends on what you are actually watching.
Hmm, guess I didn't really explain well. What I meant is. I love watching cartoons and all. But in all honesty the level of how good the cartoons are from the span of the 70's to now are pretty much same. For the exception of some classics here and there, the level of competency of cartoons is fairly similar. Nothing changes except for the person. Emotional attatchment during early childhood development has a lot to do with it too.
