This afternoon, the Mr. and I were driving down our street, with two cars in front of us, the one directly ahead, belongs to a woman who lives around the block, and the one in front of her belongs to neighbors who live 3 doors away....Just as I said to him..MY GOSH THAT CAR is driving fast(the one from around the block). And we see our other neighbors dog trotting around in their yard off of her tie-out(she did this often and didn't go dashing about as some pups do).I hear this HUGE THUD and look to see the car directly ahead of us SLAM into the nine month old shepard/lab mix as it walked out into the SIDE of the road....the neighbors car in front of her though-had also seen the dog coming out of the side yard and slowed down to almost a complete stop-and pulled over to the side of the road because they were going to grab her and bring her back to the house to be tied back up As soon as they car in front of this woman slowed down, she gassed it like a bat out of hell and thats when she hit the dog..the four of us..the neighbors in the other car who had seen the dog and slowed down, and my hub and I all run over to the pup-who's name was Sasha, who is now laying in the road bleeding from the mouth, ears etc..the woman who hit the dog DIDN'T even pull over right away! She kept driving until she saw us all run to the pup..then she has the F*CKING NERVE TO STROLL OVER like she didnt do anything wrong and say..OH MY, THE DOG RAN RIGHT OUT IN THE ROAD..then all of a sudden, the little 12 year old who owns the pup came running out of her house towards us..I grabbed her and didn't let her near the dog because there was blood everywhere and the dog was dying..but she wanted to see her puppy one more time and broke away from me..I was ready to PUNCH this woman..she had the AUDACITY to stand there while the kid's dog was dying and say.."Oh, Alison, I was just bringing flowers to your grandmother!" (who lives down the street)..NOTHING about killing the dog..nothing about speeding..NOT A F*CKING WORD TO THE KID about how she felt bad about what she did..my husband and the other man who was there went nuts, screaming at the woman about how fast she was driving, and what if it was a child etc..and she was more concerned about GETTING HER F*CKING FLOWERS delivered..in the meantime, we called 911 and the animal shelter, who took forever to get there-the little girls grandparents who live down the street, and the little girls father who came home from the fire dept..(this is the same fireman who was in NYC for 9/11)...and get this..THE COPS didnt even ticket the woman for excessive speed or ANYTHING else..even though there were 4 witnesses that saw her speed up,hit the dog, and proceed to NOT STOP..damn..then after the cop spoke to this b*tch, she proceeded to get into the car and drive away as fast as she was going when she hit the dog..I am SO MAD I CAN SCREAM..not only that-I have a great love of dogs and this has broken me up so bad that I can barely breathe...Poor little pup ...This woman cannot say she DIDNT SEE THE DOG because everyone else did...And now there is one more sad kid in this world because of someone being in a hurry..Thank god it wasn't a child that was hit and killed, and I'm thanking god that I'm not such an important person that I have to rush everywhere I go..

Sounds like it's time to speak to the police captain. File a formal complaint against the officer. What if it had been a child is a great argument.
The other driver displayed increadable lack of judgement by zipping around another car on a residential street. If you feel really malicious about it you could start a petition and have all the people in the area sign it demanding that she slow down and not run down their kids. She will die from embarasment when you present it to her.

the woman made the mistake of admitting to the owner of the dog she may have been going a wee bit fast-I just got off the phone with him..I called to check on the little girl..she is still upset but doing better than she was an hour ago...he told me he already called the police dept (firemen have alot of pull!) and that they are setting up radar or something on our street to see what the story is with cars speeding..my hub and the other gent are going to send a letter to the mayor, and I have already sent a letter off to the editor of the newspaper...not that it will do any good..this woman obviously didnt give two craps that she killed this pup..even after the little girls grandparents came down-(these were the people she was zipping flowers up to-)she was still on her "I didn't do anything wrong campaign"....I've never seen my husband so pissed!!!!!! I guess time will tell as to what happens next.

Oh man that just SUCKS! It always bothers me so much to see an animal hurt especially a dog. I would have gone ballistic on that stupid bit#h. I just saw a dog get hit last week and I was a mess. The lady who hit it pulled over and the dog really did dash out of nowhere (it was a lab chasing a critter). The lady who hit it was crying, I was crying the dog was crying. The owner was calm as a cucumber. So we scoop the dog up and wrap her in a blanket that I keep in my trunk and I drove the owner and the dog to the animal hospital. The dog ended up OK broken leg and some road rash but she is OK now. My car needed extensive cleaning, there was blood everywhere! You should have seen my husbands face when he saw the inside. Just for the record, OXYCLEAN works!

I know how you feel. :( I personally have never hit a dog, but driving back from Wichita in my in-law's van, the five of us (inlaws, hubby, me, & son), my father-in-law was driving down the highway. There was a house off the side of the road. All of a sudden a dog jumps out from the ditch beside the road (we couldn't see him til it was too late) and we hit him. We pulled into the driveway of the house and my father in law and hubby got out and went up to the door. Two guys came out and we explained what had happened. The dog was on the side of the road and was alive at that point. Anyway, they went and got the dog and were taking it inside when we left. I have no idea if it was ok or if it died or whatever. I was so sick to my stomach that I couldn't eat dinner after we got home. I had dry heaves for hours afterwards. :(

I feel you Oby. THis guy around the corner from me hit and killed our cat last year, but he's a nice guy and came to our neighbors door to see if they knew the cat. they knew it was ours and he was real nice about it and felt really bad. if he sped away I swear I woulda burned his house down outta lack of consideration alone. stick it to her Oby.

well, i'm gonna get a lot of flack for this, but i'll say it anyways... if the dog had been restrained (probably one of those pesky little city/community laws) properly, then the dog wouldn't be dead. this is as much the owners fault as the lady's.
yes, she was speeding, so she may deserve a ticket, but trying to sue her for the dog or "retaliate" in other manners (i.e. harass) would be wrong.
and if you want to get into the "what-if's"... then "what if" she werent speeding, and hit the dog anyways? Then you wouldnt be able to be mad at all, and she would actually have the right to sue the owners of the animal for the damage (if any) to her car. (well, that is, if there was any type of law at all about not letting pets run loose in the street, which al good neighbourhoods should have.)
like i said, i'm gonna take a lot of flak from this, but all im doing is posting from a non-biased point of view, and not reacting like the rest of you and saying "that b!tch hit a puppy! Lets go fuk her up good! Lets go slash her tires - That'll teach her. Hell, i hope she gets a$$ raped too, and suffers from leprosy, and has to pay a $1000 fine, and go to jail because "what if" she hit a kid not a dog?"
we cant live life going around saying "what if". But yes, speeding on smal streets (or any street for that matter) is not a good thing to do.

where in the lawbooks does it say you have to have compassion or "care" or feel sorry for....? Why is it worse if its a childs pet? I know adults that love their pets more than any child would ever love their pets.

the fact of the matter is-she hit and killed the kids dog and didn't even tell the kid she was sorry..plain and simple. Maybe that sits OK in your book, but not mine.Oh yeh..FYI had you read the original post-you would have seen that the dog had gotten off her tie-out and didn't just roam about the neighborhood at random. And from what I heard this morning from the owner-the woman also told the police officer she was using her cell phone at the time and was probably the reason she didn't see the dog. DRIVING AND USING CELL PHONES in New York State is illegal. She should have been ticketed, if for nothing else than a warning about the cell phone law.

The woman did something completely reprehensible and you seem to have no problem with it. How the hell can you live with yourself?

I think that he just missed the point. Acceptable social moores would dictate that an appology would be appropriate. However this person chose not to observe any sort of social courtesy.
After demonstrating a total lack of concern for her neighbors children by zipping through the neighborhood talking on her cell phone while passing through a resedential area. She jumped around another car without knowing why it stopped in a residential area!!! She should have been charged with felony endangerment of all the children who live on that street!
I suppose we have to wait untill she is seen killing a child before anything will be done. She has already demonstrated that she would take off if she thought she could get away with it.

I called the neighbors tonight to see if the little girl would be at cheerleading practice, and suggest to her dad that it be good for her to she go as to not sit home and have time to be upset-he agreed, while on the phone with him he told me the woman dropped off a BUNCH of McDonalds coupons (left over from halloween-the kind they sell in booklets to pass out for kids)..and said that she hoped the free food would make the kid feel better. Her dad though took the coupons and politely returned them to her telling her she had already done enough damage and that food was not going to reverse the scars his kid will have from seeing her pup smashed all over the road..the only response she had was to say.."fine,I'll give them to my grandchildren". What a freakin slag she is..Guilt is a horrible thing isn't it?

What the hell does this have to do with lawbooks? There's nothing in the lawbooks that says I can't go to Chuck E. Cheese and walk around telling little kids there's no Santa Claus. It wouldn't be illegal, but it would still make me an a-hole.
Why is it worse if it's a childs pet? Have you ever seen a child that lost a pet before? I have. Uncontrollable screaming and crying. Children are not as emotionally developed to deal with this type of thing as adults. I'm surprised I even have to argue this point.
