I've been hearin a lot about the klipsh and that logitech 'klipsch killer' thingy, but I'm not spending 100+ bucks on speakers....

I've always liked the cambridge soundworks, the one you linked looks cool too but its kinda weak with 14 watts. Well I guess it'd be fine if you don't turn it up really high or anything. Nice price too...

it's gettin old, and I'm having a problem with my rear right speaker gettin fuzzy, and not outputting any sounds..
so that's why i'm looking for a new one..

don't think it's worth it.....i like the surround, but I don't need crazyness for dvd's or anything like that....I'm gonna spend it on a home theater system :)

As a wannabe audiophile, anything under the $100 range in the computer speaker market is very similar *that is from about $30-$100*. So, don't be expecting much from those altec's. I have heard those before for a short period. Bass is heavy, mid range is shoddy and highs are ok.

:drool: I am looking @ speakers as well... I am gonna try and see if my parents will get me those for my b-day, I know those don't have much power but I want 5.1 for my DVDs and I like the remote

i really wouldnt get those if i were u... my friend has speakers like that, around 15 ish wattage, sad sad sad, they go loud but u cant hear them lol, highs are OK midrange sucks and bass response cant keep up

I'd go with Midilands if I were you. I got the MLi 460s, a 3-piece system, and it competes well against any speakers you can get for less than $100... much better than my friends' Altecs and Cambridges for the price...

I don't know about Midilands newer model speakers though, they don't seem to be as high of quality.

i may be biased but the altec lansing ada 885 are super nice, they are 4.1 :( but produce a super nice virtual center channel, almost indistiguisable from real center channels, this thing puts out huge bass, nice highs and nice mid range, they will soon be connected to all the video equipment in my room, nice nice quality, pretty large subwoofer but not overly large, dolby digital, thx certified, u mostly can get them thu dells online store although the 890s are avaliable at comp usa

I have ADA 885's just like Joe and they are awesome. I am very pleased witht heir performance. Their funtionality as well as their overall looks and design speak quality. I love the backlight on the speaker and the many different sound modes you can switch it in to. Has a remote that actually has good range on it. Bass is awesome, really hits loud, surround sound is equally as good. Just watch Independence Day on them and you will know what I'm talking about:D
I definately give Altec a :thumbup: thumbs up on this one. One other thing, as far as I know, the only difference between ADA885's and the 890's is that one set is white, and one set is black. You pay a lot more to have the 890's which are in black. White seemed to match my pc color scheme better anyway...

my thoughts are that if you don't wanna spend $100+ on speakers you should stick to a 2 or three piece system.

that said i would recommend the labtec pulse 424 speakers. i know labtec is kinda known for crappy speakers but these are an exception. if you dont believe me just read some reviews http://www.gamingin3d.com/reviews/pulse424/

plus they're only like $40 instead of these $300+ options people seem to like to offer you (eventhough you said you didnt wanna spend $100).

Well by all means a component Hi-Fi stereo system can not be matched in any way of a computer system setup, period. Its just not feasible right now to get a good sounding system from a computer. At least a true audiophile level.

on my main PC I have a SBLive 5.1 and am gonna get the Inspire 5.1 5700 and it will sound great, and on my DJ PC, well I have POWER and it sounds great, so why can't I get good sound outta PC???...

I have to agree on that one. My ADA 885's were sounding great today. The only reason I say this is because it's almost like they go through their good days and their bad days. The bass was really kicking today. I have the sub underneath the desk and it's pretty much enclosed under there besides in the front where my feet go under the desk. I think it adds to the bass. Almost like the plexi-glass enclosures they make for subs. Nothing like some good sounding bass...
