I have heard many incidents about AMD processor burning the motherboard when running without a heatsink and the Pentium chips doesn't. Is this true?

there has already been a update to this AMD does support TEMP senseing on their CPU. Just that you have to use a MB that support it.
I remember seeing it on hardocp.com, I think

Well, rule #1 would be always use a heatsink and fan. It's true AMD chips will burn in a matter of seconds if you take off the heatsink, the pentiums have a built in temp sensor to turn off/slow down the proc when the temperature gets high. I've read somewhere that the athlons also have the same kind of sensor but it isn't as sensitive, it will work when the heatsink is on. For example, your fan dies so the temperature of the proc will gradually increase, slowly because the heatsink is still on. Since the increase is gradual, the senso is able to detect the temperature rise and take proper action. But if you take off the heatsink, the temperature will just fly up and the sensor will not be able to catch it in time to turn off the proc.

Well, the fact is that AMD chips produce a lot more heat than Intel chips, and Intel has better heat protection built into the chip. But, the either way, it doesn't really matter because either one will not function properly without a heatsink/fan. The AMDs will burn up, that is true, but you will never reach even decent speeds without a Heatsink/Fan on a Pentium IV. Might as well go back and get an older chip if you are thinking of doing that...

Even thought that the intel has a heat sensor built in...which is easier to overclock?

Why would you take the fan or heatsink off while its running? most all mobo/cpu combo's come with one

Well you wouldn't, unless you're really dumb, it' s just that they were testing how the CPU's handle the heat.
Is it just me, or should be filed under "duh"? If you take the heatsink off a cpu of COURSE you risk damaging it. This is just like wondering if you'll hurt your engine if you run it dry of oil. Why is this question even being asked?
