I recently made my Duron 840 box my daily rig and decided to let my Ceeron 450 sit for a while. Moving everything over, backing this up, yada yada yada - made me realize that I need a file server. So begins the adventure.....
I have an old PPro 180 box that I got for cheap and I've been looking for something to do with it. I had it set up for a while as my FreeSCO firewall/router, but I relegated that duty to my P100. So, the PPro has just been sitting here staring at me. Then I moved everything to my Duron and (see what I said above).
I ordered a new BIOS for the mobo of my PPro - I needed it to see large hard drives. I put it in tonight and I'm setting up Windoze now. Eventually it'll run Linux (dunno what distro). Eventually I'm going to put in two Samsung 40Gb drives - I have one right now and it's seriously quiet, which is a must.
So, I'll have my P100 FreeSCO Linux firewall/router, my PPro180 file and FTP server, my daily Duron box, and my backup PII-350.
I'm going to rebuild my Celery into a basic net box and give it to my bro around February or so.
