I think that if someone (a neighbor) has a problem with the smell of cigarette smoke drifting over from someone else's house, that they SHOULD be allowed to do something about it.
"Sucks to live in Maryland" Yes it does. But someone has to live here and irritate the wacko, liberal sob's. http://sbp777.homestead.com/files/wink2.gif

Damn that would be nice. A place where you are not allowed to smoke outisde. Getting rid of something that serves no purpose at all is a good idea.

Ya, no kidding. It would be nice. So, let's start with a major one that doesn't only affect the people involved with it.

Possible, but instead things are moving to electric. Just not widespread yet.
If I had to choose, I would rather live in a place with car emissions and no cigarette smoke, than a place in the country with only cigarette smoke contaminating the air. Hell, they are both health hazzards, but at least with car emissions I know that the process where those emissions are coming from is serving a purpose.
Smoking cigarettes is like owning a car so you can run it just so you can inhale the fumes from the tailpipe. I want a car to get me places faster than walking.

I betcha a lot of Washington legislators live in Maryland. These wimps are so used to legislating everything out of existence, that it's second nature to them.
Even though I hate cigarette smoke, this kind of law is nonsense.

i, for one, think that the article was out of line. a dumb law, maybe, but social engineering? i wouldnt go that far. seems like these people are the foils of the ones they accuse of being extremests. if you cant smoke outside, then you will have to stink up your house, which totally sucks if you smoke. the law is quite harsh. i live in CA and you cant smoke in restaurants anymore, thats fine. my neighbor smokes sometimes, and it really bugs, but id rather have the smoke go out into the air that into his house and get to his family. i think we need to tax up cigarettes, and have more of those Truth ads, so we can stop kids from buying. smoking is a pretty bad habit, but this law, and the article are way out of line

Sure, why not? Just ban gasoline powered cars and make everyone use fuel cell, natural gas, and electric cars. Then, they can sell conversion kits for all yous who want to keep your old cars.
cars dont exactly provide a necessity tho. down with smoking? down with cars! take the bus
oh, also say goodbye to barbecues, burger joints that flame broil, perfumes...etc. these things arent like smoking...but when smoking is gone, they will be the new focus of all that pollutes our air ;)

Many years ago I remember hearing of a place (Kansas City?) that banned restaurants from using charcoal for grilling. (I remember in the 70s when Hardees used charcoal for cooking their burgers - it really made a difference. "Hop along down to Hardees, where the burgers are charcoal broiled.")

I'll have to keep that in mind next time we are driving to/from Florida. Man, I hate having to drive through Indiana (and Georgia). If you could just eliminate those two states, the drive to Florida would be a LOT nicer! :D

Yes, most people can just walk, but cars do serve a PURPPOSE. Smoking does not, unless you call possible lung cancer, shortened lives or birth defects a purpose.

Just ridiculous. I hope 2000 protesters storm into capital and light cubans right there in front of the legislature.
I don't smoke, but this is pushing things way too far.

or corporate profits. (Note: I do not support the smoking industry. The sarcasm is intended to show how I feel that the industry puts themselves before the people their product is killing.)

this is all very silly. i mean, nobody thinks (well nobody should think) that smoking is for health freaks or is by any means good for you. but this is just another case of government telling us yet another thing that you can't do.
for one thing, it's very insincere....if you wanna make something illegal, don't just half-assed do it. just say it's freakin illegal and give big tobacco x number of years to go out of business. oh, but there is political money in tobacco, so we can't do that...nah, government has reasons why they want tobacco around.
another thing is that smoking does serve a purpose: people enjoy it! unless we want to decide that drinking also does not serve a purpose. how many things are there that we do just because we enjoy them? people even drive their cars just for fun as well. saying that smoking doesnt serve a purpose sounds like an argument that can be made against anything that you dont like or dont agree with.
nobody cares about stuff until it affects them directly. we might not care about this whole smoking thing, but government can take away stuff until it finds something that you do care about. personally i'll just see it as limiting right now, regardless of if i agree. smoking outside=illegal? ridiculous!
