Hehehe, :disa: losers at their best.
Butler needs to do jail time and never be allowed to box again.

I agree with y'all. But it's funny that the annoucer calls a shot in the ring assault, when minutes earlier those guys hitting each other was a sport. I understand it was a suckerpunch, so it's different, but I think it's funny. WIth gloves it's a sport, without gloves its assault. that's kinda lame for a boxing announcer to say.:boxing: :argue:

Ya, so it will soften the blow so you will still be alive after being hit that many times. So you can get up in the ring another day and play the "sport" again. Any sport you can get hurt in, but knowing that you most likely will get hurt in some way and still play doesn't sound fun to me, but then that is why a lot of money is involed. There is not a lot of money at first, but that chance to get up there where there is big money keeps them going.
Maybe there should be a "sport" where a bunch of gang members are in a room and the object is not to kill, but to wound bad enough so the opponents can't get up for a few minutes at least. Then the last one standing wins. That sounds fun, huh?

I think the funniest thing was how it was a charity event for cops and after it happened the cops that were there were yelling "lock him up!!!" Hehe.

They knew what they were getting into when they stepped in the ring. There are safety measures to protect the boxers, and rules of combat that allow a boxer to see his opponent in front of him and defend himself. A very different situation from an unprovoked sucker punch when a guy's guard is down.

I feel you. I walk away like an idiot quite often around these parts...
Hmm... Two guys beating each other to a bloody pulp is acceptable - as long as they have gloves on? I don't get it.
Anyone who decides to get into boxing probably feels like it's acceptable to settle things with his fists anyway - why is this surprising to anyone?
Yes, he should never be allowed to box again, but I also don't understand why boxing is legal and admired in the first place.
<rolleyes>"Oh, boy! He sure can take a punch!"</rolleyes>

I agree with OC. that was the point I was trying to make above, but OC said it better.

Look past the bludgeoning of two titans if you want to see why it's admired by so many.
I love martial arts. (I'm currently studying Shoin Ryu Karate and Aikijujitsu.) To master these "sports" you need to have the right balance of personal fitness, awareness, training, grace, mindset, philosophy and skill. Boxing is the same way: The perfect balance will form the perfect warrior. But, like martial arts, boxing has strict rules to follow, giving the fighters discipline. The misconception about American boxing is that it's meant to hurt people. That match was one off the point system, not off a KO. If the sport of boxing was about beating the hell out of your opponent, they wouldn't wear gloves. (And we all saw what happened when the gloves came off.)

you gonna kick someone's arse with philosophy? good luck. my friend is a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and he says all the Chi and philiosphy is bullsh1t and tradition. he doesn't teach his students "philosophy." I'm not flaming, i'm just saying...

I'm not flaming either, but I know a lot of instructors who don't consider Tae Kwon Do a "real" martial art. (Keep in mind the belt rank means zero when it comes to fighting. For example, I've seen a jujitsu blue belt rank 3rd in Judo nationals. The fact that he's 4th degree black belt blah blah blah usually means he can study moves and pass generic tests. Sounds like an MCSE to me. :D)

Very true indeed. I went to watch a competition once with some Tae Kwon Do friends. One of them was just a yellow belt but I swear he's one of the last in the group I'd ever want to mess with.
Gaining belts is more about learning forms. Once your're black, gaining degrees is as much about politics and shmoozing the right masters as it is fighting. Kicking ass is something that some people are just born to do. Its more a matter of attitude, an ability to read the opponent and have the cojones to be the aggressor.

Anyone who decides to get into boxing probably feels like it's acceptable to settle things with his fists anyway - why is this surprising to anyone?True, boxing is often a last chance out of a rough and dangerous life on the streets as a thug or gangster. Most people who are advantaged and grow up in good homes without money problems don't get into boxing. Better that these people are given a supervised outlet (and provide us entertainment :D) then take their violent tendencies and use them to make their living another way.
Yes, he should never be allowed to box again, but I also don't understand why boxing is legal and admired in the first place.I forget, are you a girl? I'm not trying to clown you if you're not, but guys do have a sort of innate aggressiveness that stems from our testosterone production. If you don't have that, its much easier to see why you don't appreciate the sweet science. There's a primal satisfaction in exerting your will over another guy through brute force that most girls just won't ever understand. In better judgement, we avoid those types of situations for the better good of all. But the fact is there's no adrenaline rush cleaner or purer to a guy than that which comes when you go toe to toe with somebody and you know that one of you is going down.
