gamecube seems a tad underpowered for a next gen system and with no dvd option i think its power in the home entertainment section is a tad lower, couple with high game prices id say that the x-box sucks! oh yah i mean gamecube, well both, i like my ps2 and dreamcast
leemaj

as for price, id go w/ ps2 because there is a mod and games are burnable

I prefer the GameCube because I am a die hard Nintendo fan. I have never owned any other system and probably never will. Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and Wave Race are in my blood to stay!

A few other comments:
I do not wish to contribute to a corporation that values monopolistic ethics. Any company that tries to eliminate competition will get no respect from me. Sure, Microsoft is now competing in the console market, but their operating system is still the basis of the X-Box, even if it is a very stripped down version.
The X-Box controller does not agree with me at all. The analog joystick on the right side of the controller gets in the way of clean access to the other buttons. I don't know if that is because I have wide thumbs, or if it is a poor design, but I just do not like it. The buttons themselves are dwarfed by the mammoth controller, which makes playing awkward. The GameCube controller is, quite honestly, the most comfortable controller I have ever used. It is the perfect size and the buttons are in the optimal configuration. I am actually quite amazed that a controller can be that small yet feature a built-in rumbler.
The GameCube has the games that I most want to play. Wave Race for N64 is one of my favorite all-time games. Wave Race: Blue Storm for GameCube is 10 times better. I am extremely impressed with Rogue Squadron 2. The graphics are simply stunning. Also, games like Pikmin and Super Smash Brothers Mele look very promising.
The preceding were my opinions, and should be taken as such.

nintendo has a niche market, and thats what will keep it going, maybe not at the top, but it will be strong. I sure as hell know when my friend gets it i will be playing super smash brothers and wave race any chance i get. but my loyalty is still with sony, they have shown strongly that they are best

I think I will eventually buy an X-Box once people figure out how to hack it all up and make it into a normal computer where you can throw winxp on it and hook a monitor up to it, change out the harddrive, etc. I think I have heard that MS is taking a loss on the hardware but will make up for it in games. If I buy it it won't be to play xbox games on it. :) Hell, If I really want to, I will just get an emulator for the games later on a play them on the PC and only if the games are CHEAP down the line (don't know if that will ever happen).
Gamecube... hmm. If they do get Zelda, Metroid, Waverace, Mario and a bunch of other classics on there, I will be very tempted.
I have NEVER bought a consoule game system. I have a Nintendo that my Grandma bought for me back in the day, but she had it at here house so we could play when we visited (she used to live a couple hundered miles away). I had an Atari 2600 and 7800 that were won by me or my bro for selling pancake breakfast tickets during our stint in the Indian Guides.
It would also have to be able to hook to a moniter because I am so used to games on a pc. I go look at these consoles in stores and they just don't look visually pleasing to me.

why would you buy an X-Box just to convert it into a comp? Sounds like a waste of $$$ to me. Just buy a computer and cut out the middle man. What chip do they put in the X-Box anyway, Celeron 700MHz or something.

edit: holy sh1t! I just looked and found that it's $500! I'll sell you an old comp with those specs for 500 bucks too.

It's actually an overclocked celery. I went with the Gamecube for a few reason. First the X-Box just seems to have to many parts to go bad. Those being the hard drive, a cpu that doesnt have direct cooling and a graphic system that has no cooling. Second I'm a little leary of an Microsoft OS in an unproven format. Finally Nintendo reputation for reliable and quality machines convienced me.

the site just says "Intel 733MHz Processor." If it was a Pentium, they would say it. I also remember hearing that it's a Celeron.
In case anyone is curious, a Celeron 733 w/ mobo is only $94 on pricewatch.com. I'm not going to buy either one, but I'm thinking Gamecube would be my choice. They have the classics on their side as someone mentioned earlier.

i went with the xbox for one simple reason, MS has the resources and power to make it work. When they put their money where there mouth is theres pretty much nothing in there way, even the DOJ didn't stop them. Not to mention the xbox is just begging for hacks and mods. I admit though, the games for the gamecube look very nice.

The Xbox CPU is based upon the Intel's Pentium III line of processors with a Coppermine core and clocks at 733MHz. No Celeron. No mobile chip. It's a stright up P3 customized with half of the L2 cache.

Also, did a computer from 2 years ago have an NV20 GPU in it? I think not. Geforce3 cards are selling for $200-$300 alone today. Also, include the hard drive, the DVD drive, the RAM, and the casing and you can see that Microsoft is obviously losing money on the hardware to make money on the games. Most console companies take this same strategy.

I just realized that what I was looking at on Amazon was the pack that came with 3 games (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/720022/ref=br_bx_c_1_0/102-2079927-2633705). that's why it was $500. I'll give you that the vid card is new and not cheap, but we know they get a nice volume discount. as for aDVD drive, that ain't much, $35. and 64mb of RAM and an 8GB HD are basically free. I think you're right that they might be taking a loss on this, but why would Microsoft wanna get into this market? That's what I don't get. I guess we'll see by how well the X-box does.

Nintendo basically sold all 700,000 of its GameCubes on the release day. They are expected to ship another 500,000 before Christmas. I really hope that I can get my hands on one! :(
I haven't yet been able to find stats for the Xbox, but I don't think that it was anything close to 700,000. Total revenue for Nintendo was greater last weekend than for the Harry Potter movie. Pretty amazing.

It would be the Gamecube by Jenga. Put your system together and then take it apart to see how high you can stack it! Fun for the whole family. And it doesn't require as much electricity as that silly Gamecube video game thing. Espcially as we are in an energy crisis in california. hehe.

Consoles dominate the gaming market overall. When i was a tester i talked with a management person and she said that almost 70 percent of the gaming market is consoles.. and that was last year... i never thought about it like that... and that was before the ps2, let alone the cube and xbox..

My weak attempt to get back on topic. . .
The xbox is the best hardware system *duh* The Gamecube will be THE multiplayer system and the PS2 is here for good. So in my opinion if you want the best games out there and good fun, buy PS2. If you're more of a person that plays party games and multiplayer stuff ala-n64 :D. Buy gamecube. I already have had a PS2 for almost a year and not one single thought of regret or need for an xbox has hit me yet. But I will be purchasing a gamecube soon. . . The xbox has great potential, but so did the sega saturn and dreamcast. . . If you look at history of the gaming market the best hardware never wins. . . From the 16 bit era, genesis was far more dominant than the snes until near the end. But during that whole time there was the great neogeo and its $100 games, hehe. The NEC turbo grafix. Both flopped. Then the atari jaguar was the only 64 bitter, but playstation and saturn came out. Playstation stood its ground even though saturn had far more powerful hardware. But where'd that thing go. Then came the N64. Which I personaly love but honestly, it got nowhere compared to the 32 bit psx. The biggest evidence though that hardware never wins, the freaking nintendo gameboy. . . will it ever die? Anyhoo just showing that software is what wins. And xbox right now. . . pfft.

Sega never had the marketing abilities or resources that microsoft has. IMO thats all it takes to win. You could be selling crap, but if you package it well everyone will buy it, and when people buy it companies will support it. I'm sure MS will go as far as to lose tons of money on this just to get the market to itself, once everyone has an xbox sitting next to there TV they can release the xbox2 with complete confidence.

I've owned a PS2 since launch, and just got a GC at launch for these reasons:
1. With Nintendo, you know they are going to have some awesome first party games. "It's a meeee, Mario!" (Mario Kart alone will be worth the purchase)
2. X-Box doesn't have any games the really appeal to me yet. Halo looks like it would be good, but a FPS with no mouse or keyboard? I don't think so.
3. Already owning a PS2, Nintendo's games will be a different type of game. X-Box's games will be very simalar to PS2 games. (maturity level, gore, and such) Varitey is the spice of life!
4. The hardware... Not the guts of the system, but the actual size of the concole, and the controllers. The GC absoltely wipes the floor with the X-Box in that dept.
5. I own every Nintendo system, I might as well keep up the tradition.
In conclusion, The one plus for the X-box is it's power, graphically. But what most people fail to realize at the launch of a new system, is that it's the games that matter most. That and 3rd party support. Just look back in history. The Atari Jaguar, most powerful system at it's release. It quickly became a powerful doorstop. The 3DO, same story. Bottom line for me is, if the X-box proves itself in 6 months to a year or even 2, not to be a fluke, and have some games worth owning, I'll probably pick one up. Until then, PS2 and GC are gonna rock!
