Okay... I have really bad eyes. -14.75 in both eyes w/ a 25% astigmatism. At any rate, I've been wearing my gas permeable lenses for quite some time. They're okay to wear for most of the day, but later on, my eyes get tired and I want to take them out. But if I take them out, I'm blind as a bat.... or even more blind. I hear that you can order lenses that are super thin for eyeglasses from some other countries besides the US. Anybody have any info on this?

My friend did this. she has bad eyes like you. she used to have glasses that were so thick they were bullet proof. she got some thin ones at Target's eye center. good luck.

I don't know man... I just recently went to the eye doctor to check out the latest stuff he had. My lenses would still be about 1/4" thick with the technology available to him. I heard Japan has super thin lenses.

The trick is get some glasses with small lenses. A pair of wire rim glasses with lenses that are only 1 1/2" wide and 1" high won't be that thick.

i have REALLY bad eyesight. (i mean, you stand 10' in front of me, i cant recognize you.)
i have a pair of wire-frame glasses, and some thin lenses, but not the thinnest they had.
mine are almost 1/4" thick at the thickest point, but they taper quickly, and most of the lense is 1/8 or less. I also notice that the bevel the edge of the lense so that it looks thinner than it should.

Let me give you an idea of how bad my eyesight is. Without my contacts, I can't recognize you if you were 2' away. I can't read that big 'E' on the eyechart w/o my contacts. I can read a book, if the books were about 1.5" away from my eyes.

My left eye is -2.5 and my right is perfect, so I only wear 1 contact lens.

I'm around 6 on both eyes, and I can read 3 lines on the chart..
anyways, Yeah, the smaller the lenses (width & height), the thinner they are....
Ask for high index lenses. I think that is what my husband has, and they are really thin.

Why not just wear contacts?

I do wear contacts. My eyes get tired later in the day or they get irritated.

Hong Kong. My mom has bad vision and got some SUPER thin glasses in Hong Kong.
I have really bad vision and astigmatism like you and I wear gas-perm contacts that bug me like crazy all day. They feel like dust magnets and glare at night. :( Anyway, I'm planning to get laser eye surgery. I'm tired of glasses and contacts, which I've had since 1st grade.
Ever considered laser eye surgery?

I wear gas perm as well. I suffer from the same problems (dust and the glare). I would really like to get laser eye surgery, but I'm still waiting a little while longer to see if any new technology is coming out.

My friend got laser surgery a few years back, and his eyes are fine. Me, I don't like contacts or glasses, so I just got used to the world looking fuzzy. Makes dating a lot easier. :P

-14.75? Wow.....that's crazy!
But yeah....I feel you're pain....I only have -3.75 - L, -3.25 - R, and pretty bad astigmatism so my glasses are pretty thick also.
A friend's mom told me about a surgery where they cut your eye and put in a lens to correct the vision. Completely reversable and if your eyes get worse they can just put in another lens. Viable option?
