I picked up a ThermalTake Volcano6cu fan (ordered a Volcano 5 but AccessMicro screwed up [I wonder if they use chimps to pick products off the shelf]) Anyways - it has a thermal pad on the bottom and the directions dont include using thermal compound....
Does anyone know if I should use the thermal compound anyway? or should I just let the copper bottom and its "thermal pad"...
Thanks in Advance

Remove the thermal pad and clean the copper bottom if you want to use the thermal compound.

It has been mentioned elsewhere, but if you want to remove the "TIM" (thermal interface material) a good way is to scrape it off with the edge of a credit card. Don't use a razor blade or such or you risk damaging the bottom of the sink. I use alcohol to clean off the bottom of the sink after. Then use a *good* paste, sparingly applied to the top of the cpu. Again, a way I like is to spread it thin using the edge of a credit card or business card.

Is the TIM fine?...I dont overclock and just want to do whatever is better....
BTW - the name on this thread is screwed up because I at first had a question about my OEM chip...however - upon resolving (and since I couldnt delete my thread) I decided to write another question...but forgot to change the title...bah!
Thanks for the advice..
