View Full Version : Comp+Printer Stopped Liking Each Other . . .

OK, I'm running Windows XP and have an HP LaserJet 3200 Printer . . . when I installed XP, the printer quit going because the driver wouldn't work . . . well, I got that issue resolved (At least I thought I did) . . . everything on the printer was working fine (printer, fax, scan, copy) . . . but all of a sudden, it just all stopped. There haven't been any major changes made to the computer, it just quit.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, but every time I try to reinstall, I get error messages from the install software saying that it was unable to set it up.
Edit: Just thought to add that Windows XP recognizes it as newly added after I uninstalled it . . .
Any help would be appreciated . . .

First off, download the newest and correct drivers for your printer. After that, make sure your printer is off. Then un-instal it. Reboot, *with printer back on* then have xp do the installer thing with the correct drivers.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already tried that and it's not working. Windows XP installs the driver properly, but the printer won't do anything without the software properly installed . . . and when I go to install the software, it gives me a message that
"Setup was unable to install the HP Laserjet 3200 PCL 6 driver. Refer to the Installation Notes for information on how to install the driver manually."
Followed by . . .
"Setup was unable to install the HP Laserjet 3200 Series Fax driver. Refer to the Installation Notes for information on how to install the driver manually."
It then says a severe error has occurred and I should restart and look for information on how to install the driver manually (which is already installed)
The driver is supposed to be installed to port "dot4_003" which it is, but then when I go to install the software, it asks which port the printer is connected to . . . "dot4_003" is not an option. It lists all the LPT ports and COM ports, then lists several other posts
All giving the same error message . . .
Also, just remembered, I did add 256mb of RAM to the system . . . but I don't know if that would have screwed with anything . . . I believe the printer was working after that.
EDIT: OK, well played with it a bit more, and the software is still not installed (still the same error messages), but it's printing, copying and faxing . . . no scanning though . . .
