about every few days i run scan disk on my hard drive and it always finds error and fixes them. i just reformatted my computer about a month ago, and defragemented maybe two weeks ago. the reason i ask is something is really slowing my computer down but i cant figure out exactly what it is. i think i have it down to my hd, motherboard or video card. is this an indication my hard drive is going out? i dont remember what kind it is but its probably about 3-4 years old. thanks alot.

It could be the drive... it could be the IDE channel on the motherboard.

do you have a soundblaster? Try removing it and the drivers. See if it does anything. Sometimes a SB Live card can hog the CPU. also try to get a program called wintop. It measures CPU usage...you should always be about 98-99% free when running it after a startup.

if you actually read his post he sayd his computer is slow and he doesn't know what it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The drive may not even be the problem...why don't you think before you open your mouth?

Hmm I think I just got the same problem you have over the last couple of days. It went away though, by itself after 3 days. What it does is basically it slows down the comp big time, if I were to right click my desktop the menu would show up after 15 seconds or so. My comp would do small and short acceses to the HD. Well... since mine went away without me doing anything, I'm not sure what is wrong. It could still be the HD, how much RAM do you have and check your virtual memory also.
