I have an AMD TBird 1.2 Ghz with an Alpha 8045 on an asus A7v133. My case is an antec sx-830 300watt power supply.

I put it all together and booted it up. I heard one short beep and then I hit "del" key to get to the bios. While I was in bios (and about to change some of my settings but didn’t get the chance to), a time period of about 30 seconds into it, the computer froze in the middle of the bios screen...I couldn't do anything. None of the keys worked.

I reseted and nothing happen. No beep noise this time. All the fans started spinning and I saw my drives light up but nothing on the screen. All I saw on my montior was black. I did not hear the beep so is something wrong with the motherboard? Could it be that my processor dead? Is there anyway to tell?
I took off the heatsink and it doesn't look burned or chipped. It looks fine but is there any way I can tell?

Is it a videocard problem? Is that why I can't see anything. Wouldn't I hear a different kind of beep if that was the case?

Is it the settings on the motherboard? If so, how come it worked the first time?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Take it easy.

i had the same problem on a msi mobo (forget the model) and a tbird 1.4ghz.

if i set the fsb to 100 instead of 133 it worked fine, i returned the mobo (there were other things i didnt like about it too) and got an epox 8k7a. the tbirds now running at 1.55ghz so who knows what was wrong with the mobo.

try yanking all of the IO devices except for the video card & HD controller, and all the extra memory, and try again. then add them back and see if those are the problems.

whenever i build a computer, i do it card by card, rebooting in between. saves time debugging later on
