I have an AMD TBird 1.2 Ghz with an Alpha 8045 on an asus A7v133. My case is an antec sx-830 300watt power supply.

I put it all together and booted it up. I heard one short beep and then I hit "del" key to get to the bios. While I was in bios (and about to change some of my settings but didn’t get the chance to), a time period of about 30 seconds into it, the computer froze in the middle of the bios screen...I couldn't do anything. None of the keys worked.

I reseted and nothing happen. No beep noise this time. All the fans started spinning and I saw my drives light up but nothing on the screen. All I saw on my montior was black. I did not hear the beep so is something wrong with the motherboard? Could it be that my processor dead? Is there anyway to tell?
I took off the heatsink and it doesn't look burned or chipped. It looks fine but is there any way I can tell?

Could it be something else? Any advise or help would be appreciated. Take it easy

I have no experience w/amd chip but is the cpu seated correctly?

Maybe be a video card problem too. Had that happen to me and had to dl a video bios recovery disk from matrox to correct the problem.

What kind of vid card u using? Whats the setup on the motherboard.
In other words whats in agp, slot1, slot2, slot3.

take out all of the memory, leave just the vid card...re-seat the processor, see what happens.

if that works...add the memory, then the pci cards...

if it doesn't work, try a cheapy ghetto video card...if that doesn't work...it's prob yo MB or CPU.

I have a gainward Geforce2 Ti450. I switched it with a Geforce 2 MX and still the same thing. I guess I could rule out the videocard.

No beeps. I have nothing in the slots. Only the videocard in the AGP and the ram. I took them out and put them back in and tried to boot but I still get that empty screen.

ah,,,very fustrating.

My guess it's the CPU but is there any way I could tell for sure? I don't want to go out and buy a new one unless I am a 100% sure.
I looked at it and it seems to be okay. No marks, chips, burns that I can see. Didn't smell anything either.

Thanx

Was your cpu fan hooked up correctly? Did it come on?
