Floppy controller on Asus A7V133

The floppy controller on My Asus A7V133 is not working correctly. When I look in device manager, the floppy drive is there and it makes sounds and the light comes on(run on sentence... I know), but whenever I put a floppy into the drive and try to access it, I get a prompt telling me to insert a disk into the drive. What could be the cause of this problem? This really presents a problem because it won't accept a boot disk should I happen to need to use one. Could it be I have damaged something on the board? I have looked all through the bios and do not see anything that could be causing this problem. Any suggestions? Is anyone familiar with Asus policies in case I have to send this in or call for tech support? Thanks guys.

Is the drive cable on correctly? I only ask this because I've put on one backwards. When I did it, the drive light was on all the time, and I couldn't read any floppies.

The floppy cable should be the opposite of a hard drive cable. If you're looking at the drive from the front of your computer, the red or striped end of the cable should be on your right.

I've had this happen to me a couple times when I put things together in a hurry. I usually don't find out for a while, since I don't use floppies that often. If it's an emergency, you can always make a bootable CD with the information from the floppy on it (assuming that you can boot for a CD).

What is needed in order to make a bootable cd? I know once I made it all I would have to do is set the order of boot devices as cd first, and then whatever else... and theoretically it should boot from the cd?

I usually use Nero to create my bootable CDs. It's a lot nicer than using floppies. The CD is more durable, and I can put everything I need on it.
