What happens if your Mother board only supports 2x But I go out and buy a 4x agp card?

Your 4x AGP video card should be backwards-compatible with your 2X AGP slot. The card will transfer at 2X AGP. Hope that made sense. :hihi:

yeah, and it wont make much of a difference right now, most systems and software can only handle about 2x transfer, its not like youre gonna miss something

What are you talking about. I have an 8x AGP port/card. And it is actually 8x. :hihi:

I think it will depend on the game but for the most part, you shouldn't notice a difference. The more memory your video card has, the less of a significance AGP4X becomes from what I understand.

im thinking about getting the geforce2 mx series which one should I get the 400 or the 200 @ 64 mb? or is there something else thats better for my 2x agp?

Between those choices, I'd definitely lean towards the Geforce2 MX 400. I would assume it also has 64MB, right? :hmm:

SpeedEng: I wouldn't be concerned about the AGP matter. Just go ahead and get the videocard.

As qmanchu has said, the 64MB Geforce2 MX 400 would be better to get. But depending on how much you want to spend, you may have better options.

I don't recommend either. Get the Geforce 2 Gts-V 32mb DDR from newegg.com. I believe in CA the total cost is like 75.20 or something shipped. Anyone want to disagree?

Actually, it's going for $65 + $5 s/h right now from newegg. That's a very nice price for that card. The only points to criticize would be the lack of TV-Out and only 32MB DDR SDRAM. However, if you don't need the TV-Out and don't usually play games with large textures, this would be a great buy.
